What did you get done on your Stang today????

Oh, you were told... we were all told... But you chose not to listen, just like the rest of us... what a bunch of horny dumbasses we are...
fixed it for ya

Tore the toploader down today and got everything cleaned up, ready to re-assemble. After checking all the parts over, I noticed that the input shaft is ever so slightly twisted. It will not allow the pressure plate to slide on far enough. I did re-assemble the main shaft and gears, but the rest will have to wait till another weekend :nut

Here's what a TL looks like when it's on the floor. They're really not that complicated.

I thought that is what they looked like when you coasted off the track.....

What are you doing to prevent more twisted shafts?

Major milestone today. The 65 started for the first time in 20 years! I haven't found the time to work on the car at all in the past year. Finally pushed though my slump and got a shot of motivation when I was able to hear the 289 come to life. I threw together some temporary wiring to get things hooked up like the 3G alt and the new mini starter. I first fired it up with an external starter trigger on the starter and running a 12 volt wire to the positive side of the coil. Once I heard it run, I worked on some more wiring to get it to fire with the key. With the cooling system non existent at this time it was only a few quick runs but I was able to verify everything working. Short video proof.....

I think it was that way when I bought it and just never noticed. It's always been a little tight when I'd mate the tranny to the motor. It never slid all the way together, it needed a wrench to pull it in the last 1/2" or so and was a little tough to separate. Makes sense now that I was able to see all of the input shaft.

The guy I bought it from was a drag racer.

It was also missing the interlock pin for the 3rd/4th shift rail. I was very careful when I removed that rail and it was not there. Didn't find it in the case either.

Last weekend, I bought a barely used Millermatic 175 from a guy I know for $250(came with a full bottle, too). Killer deal. He used it twice and then decided he didn't trust his welding skills on some critical parts he was fabricating, so he paid a pro to do it. I had to try it out tonight. Since my new stainless fuel tank arrived a few days ago, I welded in my trunk panels and have my tail light panel up next.... it feels great to have gotten something done!

I drove to the local Cars and Coffee event and watched my Shelby turn over 100,000 miles. It now shows 28 miles. Frickin cold this morning too.

Now the miles match the appearance!

Video no worky for me. Nevertheless, congrats on taking such a big step.

Turned on the heat in the garage. Going out later to run the speaker wire and install the speakers, then install the retro sound radio. Then it will be super bowl commercial time.

Nothing, my back was acting up so I spent the day on the couch with a heating pad. That will teach me to cut down 5 tree in a day. The smallest tree was 16" across and the largest was 29".

I feels better now but I have to work today. :shrug

Yesterday I put the new wiring I bought. Got most of it hooked up and a few misc things I have to figure out to make the stock harnesses work on my 1990 302 setup. I figure I'm going to have to move my MSD coil from the passenger shock tower to the drivers side shock tower so it reaches the engine gauge feed wires. This morning, I went to the auto parts store and picked up a new temp sending unit and bulbs for the instrument panel lights.

Today's tasks include finishing hooking up the wiring, install the dash cluster ( finally after over a year of waiting! :pbj ), put the steering column back on and steering wheel. Depending when/if I finish all that.. might put the GT wheels back on, put the hood back on and maybe install windshield.

How do you embed youtube videos?

Just drop the regular link straight in the post. Don't embed it.

I took all the stuff off my broken pony that had piled up on it during the 43 months since it was last on the road, and pulled off the car cover to see how it's been doing. Didn't want to start pulling the engine today, not with the Super Bowl starting at 3:30. But it was good to see the old heap in the altogether again, after all these years.

Here's another look at the 30-over 5.0 that will be going under the hood:

Spent a few hours in the garage today. Haven't touched the stang in at least 6 months. Dropped her down off jack stands and rolled it to the front of garage to clean up around the back of the garage and hang some lights.
Tried to see if the stock accelerator cable I got from Rob(66gt350) out of a 5.0 would work for my efi swap. When I installed it the accelerator pedal was higher than the brake pedal. Not sure how to make it work. Maybe I just need to break down and buy the lokar cable.

Covered it back up and cursed at it again.

Well I got the speaker wire and speakers installed today. The front speaker(dual voice cone) and radio will have to wait til next weekend.

In order to keep your stock accelerator pedal position using the 5.0 cable, I believe an extension is needed at the top of the pedal arm. I have a pic of it somewhere which I can try to find and post if you'd like.
