That's awesome glad that you got it sorted out. It definitely sounds healthy.
I had a similar thing. My Dakota Digital cruise control was randomly shutting off for years. I chased connections throughout the whole system. Then finally I went back and checked the ground to the main cruise control module and I had a bad connection. Fixed that and everything is now fine.She’s alive!!! After chasing what I thought were ground issues(sanding the block and tiny spot on the firewall with 80 grit…
Started pushing connections and then pulling on wires and found a bad crimp. Only 6 hours later after my first attempt lol
Here she is.

Well done Chris! It sounds awesome. That uncooked idle always reminds me of my first rebuilt engine starting up. I bet it feels good, too.
Start by getting more beer
I start with 'the club' on my steering wheel sitting on a towel wedged in the drivers seat, and drop the tie rods, and straighten the wheels as best I can. Then I get out jackstands, some string and shut one eye! Seems to work out ok. Alignment thread around here anywherer?
Brian talked me through it. Got the Longacre gauge figured out, I’ve got -1.5 camber both sides and 3 drivers side an a little over 2.5 passenger side caster with no shims. Will start shimming and adjusting toe tomorrow. Two fans on and heat still got me so had to call it for the day.

I use the string method for setting toe, but I use a hub mounted alignment gauge for caster & camber. It works well enough, but I sure miss my access to a Bear alignment rack.

Wow, 10:45 AM local and I just rolled into work, sat down, and got my Stangfix. What would it be like to be retired already?
And to get back on topic. I just looked at my Mustang on my way to the truck. It's way to hot to drive my Mustangs right now.
I have the Longacre gauge and use this for the toe.
Had my alignment checked at Les Schwab tire center. Was right on. I really like being able to check and adjust my alignment myself.

Since the Beetle is on hold while I await missing parts to show up in the mail, I have been tackling the trunk area of my 65. Today, I bought some semi-gloss black paint and touched up the taillight bezels as they have never been touched up before...at least not by me:
