Looks like a good letter/number combo for a '69. Hey, aren't they supposed to have a blue plate anyway??? :hide

I dont think there is an inside joke. He has black plates on the car, I think 69/70 had blue plates, not black, or the blue plates started in mid '69

I think the joke is simply that he's been itching to get black plates on his car for years now. He's been watching the various attempts at extending the YOM law to include black plate cars ('63 to '69) fail over the years and has FINALLY gotten his way.

A few years ago at the Knott's get together, he was presented with a "black plate", a dinner plate painted black and resembling a license plate. Funny stuff for us Californians. :rofl

Correct! I did not mean to exclude you all from the reasons for the post and photo. I ASSumed the subject was common knowledge.

Rag Top is very persistent when he puts his mind to it, so much so that it becomes a quest for him. For years he had been complaining that the DMV would not let him swap later year blue plates for the black ones. He went to multiple offices, wrote letters, and made phone calls. He never relented, so us NorCal members are really happy he got his plates.

IIRC, Prior to this Rag Top had been fighting with either the City or Livermore or Pleasanton to get them to clean up the trash/tires in the drainage ditches around town. Initially he was ignored, but he never gave up and it was cleaned up.

I appreciate the fact that he never gives up, and will fight the bureaucratic powers.

Hi FYI, 69 was the last year of the black and in 70 then went to the blue.

They went to the Blue/Gold mid year 1969. Scary had blue plates on it when I bought it. The new law does not apply to Blue plates, only black.

And what's with the gang sign he's flashing?

My bad, I took the pic while some other unamed SF'er, (cough)KMBWRS(cough), ran up and started talking' trash. At that moment, RagTop was in the motion of balling his fist to punch him.
