After driving 300+ miles and being only 17 miles from Knotts, Shag's mechanical fuel pump decides to take a dump during major Los Angeles traffic jam. Moving maybe 2-3 mph, going up an incline, being 3-4 lanes over on the left was probably the worst setting. With a sudden shutdown and seeing all the fricken traffic all around me, all I could do is jump out and have the wife get behind the wheel as I attempt to push the turd up hill and over 3-4 lanes to the right shoulder.
Luckily some fellow motorist who saw the situation, jumped out of their cars and helped push along with fellow Stangfixer KBMWRS, etc. Calls immediately went out to our group who were in front and behind me about the issue and in no time we were all on the shoulder. After a few minutes of diagnosis we deemed it was infact the fuel pump. Thus I called AAA to have the car flat bedded to the hotel and meanwhile we sent the rest of the group ahead to check in and go find me a fuel pump. SacBill found a local auto parts store who had one and when we finally arrived at the hotel, the new fuel pump was waiting.
Though everyone was ready to help me install the pump, due to the time of day and the crappy mood I was in, I decided it was best to break away from the problem and go have a liquid dinner. The following morning I got up early and with the help of the NorCal gang, installed the new pump and was back in action.
I can't thank all my friends enough for dealing with my shitty mood and helping me get through this.
