Remember the video in Jay Leno's garage where they used a machine to "print" a part for an old steam engine that was not made by anyone? Look at the new plastic gauge clusters that are out now for less than $100, where you put your own gauges in. Waay cheaper than the JME gauge set at over $1k.

Those other inexpensive bezels you refer to are thermo-formed or injection molded. Both are inexpensive if you look at a per piece cost to produce but you first have to invest some serious dollars in hardware to produce them. A mold or die can run into tens of thousands depending on the size and detail. That's a whole lot of gauge pods to sell just to get back to even!
