Got 3rd Place in a Car Rally Yesterday - pics

DEL65

Of The Morons
One of the Lions Clubs in a nearby town held a Fall Car Rally. It was a fund raiser to buy Medic-Alert badges for low-income kids in the County. My Lions Club bought some tickets and gave me a spot. It was not a race, but more of a Trivial Pursuit / History challenge that took us all over the Foothills and thru some small Gold Rush towns. We drove about 100 miles.

Members for a local late-model Vette club teamed with our group for the hunt. I was pleasantly surprised that none of them were DB's, but instead really nice people that love cars & cruising. It was a great time and prefect Fall day.

We had to stop at this stand any measure the largest pumpkin in the patch

Congrats John! Sounds like it was a great time and definitely a whole lot warmer than it was at our car show yesterday.

No one complained about the unfair advantage you had in your invisible car?

Congrats, John. We did one of those a while back and it was a blast. Tracey and I sucked ass at it, and came in pretty close to last, but it was a blast.

That looks like a lot of fun, can you explain how it was set up? I'd like to suggest one of those for around here. By the way, CONGRATULATIONS!

It was very organized. We all met at the start/finish area and were given a map and a list of 15 multiple choice questions. The map showed 5 places we would have to visit. We decided to do the rally as a caravan, while other cars did it individually.

We visited a fruit stand and had to answer: "Whats the circumference of the largest pumpkin at the farm?". Then we went to a nut company and had to find out when it opened. It was amusing, because the employees at the gift shop knew about the rally and the question. The would not give the answer, but gave us hints.

From there we went to other historic sites including a bridge, school house, jail, and cemetery; all in different parts of the foothills. Questions included the dimensions of a jail window and we had to count the bars. At the cemetery, we looked for a specific person who died in 1905 and had count the number of presidents in office during his lifetime. (Thomas Jefferson to Teddy Roosevelt)

After we returned, we were given 15 tie-breaker CA history questions like: "What's the name of the type of gold discovered at Sutter's Mill?" (Placer gold) The judges scored both tests and picked the winners.

It was followed by a BBQ and raffle. The rally took our group about 3 hours. If you would like addl info, drop me a PT.

Thanks for the info. That sounds like a blast. I think I'm gonna bring up the idea here with our local car club. If they are receptive, I'll PM you for more details. This would be a cool way to include wives in a car club event. Make it be husband and wife teams!
