First outing for 2011

70_Fastback

Hell Bent for Speed
Saturday here in the glorious state of Kansas was a PERFECT day. Upper 70's/low 80's. Clear beautiful day. I decided to knock off of the rat around noon and uncover the orange beast. She was DIRTY. I changed the oil, put on new header gaskets, topped off the fluids. Primed her up and she popped right off after 4 or 5 cranks.

Back her out and let her warm up some. Many unneccesary semi high RPM rev ups to let the neighbors know what time it is too...

But I couldn't go on the first year cruise with it dirty from the rat rod work dust, etc. So a quick handwash & dry and it was ready to zoom.

Bonnie & I hopped in the car and headed North / East to the Missouri side and wound our way up to a little town called Weston, MO. Cool little historical town. Lots of uniques shops for the lady folks and plenty of bars & bar/grill combo. We stopped and one B/G to drink some beer and eat some yummy grub. Sweet potato fries with honey mustard sauce is the sh*t! But will sitting and drinking some cold ones I see two pirates walk by and head in to the bar across the street... I though damn is Missouri beer stronger... :wtf

But it turned out it was "pyrate" day there. The pirates were celebrating a fallen pirate (I think one lady pirate said he dies in a car crash - :sarc) :wth

So we talked to a few of the pirates - and they were huge uber dorks. I can only describe it as like being at a star trek convention - but for pirates. They were all staying in the hotel above the brewery to they were all tanked. Ah... good times.

Oh, and this was one cool little shop we did go into:

All in all, we had a great day. I caught Bob V. too late, otherwise I think he would have came to Weston with us. We ended up putting about 120 miles on the odometer.

Looks like fun! I finally washed the dust off my heap, so it's about ready to go.
Planning an inaugural cruise this weekend. Hope the weather holds.
Friday Basehor cruise is a definite - still not sure about Saturday - may have a "scheduling conflict". :rant

Think we can wake Skip up and get him out Friday or Saturday??? :hide

Picked up a few more parts at the junkyard Friday afternoon & got the cruise control and power mirrors working, along with a proper, functioning battery holddown! Installed the new alternator pulley and belt and changed 16.3 quarts of oil Saturday along with washing 3 cars and a dog. Wish I would have checked my phone sooner Saturday.....

I was also "messing" with the car on and off all weekend.

Got the camera system in the car on Saturday and made my first test run. I have some re-programming to do. I did not run the car hard since it was just waking up from a long winter's nap.

Spent part of Sunday doing a complete brake fluid flush with some Motul RBF 600. Surprising how much dirt and air was in the system.

Skip! That cam program/system that you have is KILLER! I can't wait to watch that guages, etc during track time. Mark needs that too!

And first walk or not, I ran mine hard a couple of times on the way home... 435 towards/aft Weston is pretty desolate and supports 3 digits pretty well... :hide

Just be careful about filming yourself on public roads and posting on a public forum. It is proof of road violations. :steer

Good God, a quarter of 2011 has already gone by and NOW you decide it is time to bring the Mustang out for a drive? :wtf

Thanks guys.

And Craig - I know! It's maddening to pay insurance for a full year to only get to drive it mabe 50% of the year and only 50% of THAT 50%. :bomb

I believe that other 50% is the percentage of days of bad weather during the 50% of the year he's not garaged because of seasonal bad weather (i.e. winter). The Midwest is awesome!

Bingo! We have a winnah.... :pbj

This is what makes not getting my car on the road bearable. I figure I'm only really missing 20-25 days of driving max. :hs

Oh, I log more days than that. I usually drive it to work at least two or three times a week (more if weather permits) from now until LATE Fall.

Actually, doing that math and "assuming" an average of 2.5 times a week X 4 weeks/month = 10 times a month X (maybe) 7 months, yields 70 times. Not counting weekends.

Damn.

I need to move to Kalifornica.
