65 Mustang Floor Pans, shock tower frame and more.

I always enjoy seeing other peoples progress; So I thought I would share what I have been up to.

I made some repairs to both the frame and shock towers about 15 years ago when I was 17. It worked for the time but it has always bothered me. Once I started ripping into it I uncovered some work that a previous owner had done, Hidden well with sealer and undercoating.

Engine out and ready to start cutting....


First I removed the lower section of firewall and while doing so I ripped some of the metal on the inner rocker, partly do to some rust. I decided to remove a section and replace it.



As you can see it is rust free and still has it galvanizing, I put tape on it and then cut out the shape I needed with a razor..


This made a perfect template for me to cut out.


Primed and ready to install.



Welded.


Lower firewall/toe kick sitting in place

New firewall pieces lined up almost ready to weld.


Welded in with frame rail clamped into place.


Frame Rail and shock tower tacked in.


Frame Rail extensions welded in.


Other side


Some paint.


That's it for now.

Was happy to see how solid these were...



Drivers pan in and welded. Drives side is done minus seat riser and some final welding.


Bottom of passenger frame had a rust hole made a new piece....



Cut out and ready for fitment and welding...



Ground down and ready to go...



Passenger firewall and kickpanel welded in.


Passenger rocker cleaned up and primed.


Passenger floor fitting....


Pan welded with lower 69 seat riser..

Nice looking work! I was going through the same thing with my 65, I did most of the metal work when I was 16. 20 years later, I was redoing some of it. Do you plan on welding torque boxes in?

Thanks, Yes the drivers side torque box is already in. Should have the passenger side in soon. Decided to buy a Dynacorn passenger torque box after fighting with the off brand drivers one.

Some updates, getting there...
Made my own shock tower braces.

I cleaned up the underside, used self etching primer and Duplicolor bedliner.




During engine bay prep...



First coat of SPI epoxy....



3 coats of high build primer after sanding...





This is after two coats of SPI Epoxy, Still wet in the pictures, I might stop here or do MAYBE do body color/clear.

Nice work, welding looks good. I hope to get some time on mine soon, warm weather has brought mowing, power washing, pool maintenance and of course a long honey do list that is keeping me out of the shop.

I know what you mean, I mow 1.5 acres and we go to our cottage every weekend, and I have a 2 and 4 year old. It's hard to find time for extra stuff like working on the mustangs, this is taking me way too long.
