You never have enough Vises

Brought home a couple vises from the farm that needed some TLC. I started with the one in the middle. The one on the left one of my vises from my garage.


I took it apart then put the pieces into a bucket of Evaporust. Wiped it down, lube it and put it back together.

Going to make some soft jaws for the other 2 vises next.

Tip: Do not drop sharp pieces of metal into a plastic bucket, it will cause it bucket to crack and you will loose $30 worth of Evaporust.

Evaporust is amazing stuff. I had an old rusted torque wrench with a painted scale- threw it in the stuff and it came out shiny and didn't touch the painted scale.

Cleaned up the other 2 vises and made some soft jaws for the Irwin vise.

I made myself a work pedestal years ago and had mount holes is several places to mount different vises, even had one large vise that mounted on the pedestal without a table top. Last year I fabricated a plasma tabke extension for the pedestal table which made vise use a bit of a PITA. This year I fabricated a set of reliever mounts for vises and a large permanent swivel mount for a pair of them. Works so well, not sure why I struggled so long without it.

The one swivel vise isn't a high dollar unit but the other is an old Record vise, made in England. I have maybe 10+ more vises of different sizes and shapes around the shop. My wood working bench even has 2 vises incorporated right into its build. They both also use pins that work with other pins/dowels that fit into the table to hold items up to 6' long.

How about these bad boys that I designed/built into a fancy holding system to hold components for aircraft wings. Each of these air vises were $1000s of dollars each and each fixture had 50 of them. I designed custom jaws to hold the stock by a minimal amount. They were each controlled with a dedicated air system and held a 50 foot long piece of 12" 1" T6 6061 plate.

What multi-knifes are you speaking of?
On that note, I don't own any Gerber versions of multi-knifes, several Leatherman units including a Mutt, a few Victorianox sets but my Gerber knives are simple pocket knives.
If you are referring to the stuff on the table in the 1st image, those are rail spike that I was bending up for a project.
