Why is it?

I was out in the garage this evening just doing some routine stuff.

Changing the oil, topping off other fluids, etc.

I started wondering....why is it working on the car is fun and something I look forward to if I am doing an upgrade or figuring out something I've never done before. But, doing routine (dare I say boring) stuff like changing oil seems like work?

Anyone else ever had that realization?
 
It took me forever to change the oil in both my truck and the 65, then suddenly one day I got the bug and pumped both of them out. Yeah a very non challenging thing to do but the rigs have a smile on their faces after the change.

I use a pump in my boat, and whatever cars it will fit into. It works fantastic, if it can get into the crank case.

The baffles of the canton pan will prevent the hose from getting to the bottom of the oil pan on my '69, but I cannot remember the last time I took the drain plug out of the '66's stock pan, nor the last time I had to lay down to change the oil in that car. The thing I really like about it, is that you never get a leak at the drain plug, since you never take it out. What I don't like about it, is that it's a whole lot slower than pulling the plug.

In my boat, there's no way to get a drain pan under the engine, so the pump is the only way to go, and the reason I bought the pump.
 
Where do you place the hose for pumping the oil out of the pan? The dipstick?
