The toilet pictured on page 1 is a typical asian toilet. Asian toilets are designed such that you squat above them. This gets real tricky when you're out drinking at a bar in the orient, which BTW isn't usually as clean as the one pictured. What I found REALLY uncomfortable while living in Japan were public restrooms in small towns. In the town we lived in there was an old historic bridge leftover from the 12th century. At this site/"city park" it seemed there was always some kind of festival going on. While there if you had to relieve yourself, the public restroom was the american equivalant of walking up to the office water cooler and gettinng a drink. In other words, the porcelin was not contained within any kind of structure that provided any level of privacy. It was commonplace to look over and see some guy/girl squating over the porcelin. Perfectly acceptable over there, not so much over here.
