Which battery should I get?

Does the 67/68 use a 24F series battery? Any particular favorite brand? I don't want a red battery in the engine bay.

I have a black battery , orig from mercedes.And pulled off all the stickers of course !!! 12v - 74Ah

I prefer Optima batteries.

Although they are red or yellow (depending on your selection), you could always paint the top whatever color floats your boat.

+1 on Optima. I've got a red top, and it's a great battery.
 
In the stock location, you'll need the 24F. Lots of options out there, but nearly all are green, red, or yellow these days. A can of plastic paint will take care of that-
 
Word of correction : I did altern my batterytray to fit a ( i think) 27F standart battery
 
Craig, last year I bought a Motorcraft 24 series from the ford dealership. It is mostly black.
 
Get an Optima and paint it whatever color you prefer. I don't like having battery acid in my engine bay, and never will again.
 
I'm using an Exide nascar select battery. Its all black. Been good for the past 4 years.

I've had really good luck with Interstate batteries. The 24F I have in both of my 68's are black case.
 
Read up on the Optima website and they look pretty good.

The group numbers that they list don't match up at all with 24 or 27. Which Optima red top matches up to the group 24 size?

I guess my asking that doesn't help Craig, and while it does have a black case, the posts look like they are not spaced right to put on one of those AUTOLITE covers.
 
My Redtop was relocated to the trunk using a modified stock battery tray mounted to the passenger frame rail. Just another idea....
 
I thought the idea for the optima is that they are gel filled, so Duanes little run in with acid would be a lot less likely to happen. Am i wrong? What are the other pros?
 
If you are looking for a "standard" type battery then I will not put anything but a Motorcraft in! I beat the battery in my Lightning for 8 years, discharged it fully several times, & it lasted. I had a 93 ranger I left the lights on for 3 weeks!!! One jump start, never charged on a battery charger, & it lasted for the 5 more years I owned the truck & was still going strong.

I will agree with this. My father's 95 Ranger still has the original battery in it and it has about 200k miles on it. It's had all kind of battery drains and still going strong
 
You guys do know that Motorcraft doesn't actually make batteries, right? There are only a few major battery companies, Johnson Controls Inc (JCI) and Exide are the two largest. Most batteries are supplied by one of the two. JCI batteries include Interstate, Optima, Die Hard, Duralast (Autozone), Super Start (O'Reilly), and Napa's batteries. Exide seems to be losing ground. I can't recall who makes Motorcraft or AC Delco batteries.
