Whats the cheap "Off brand" of Dynamat?

No, I am referring to the rolls of asphalt based roll material that is gooey and dense, a lot of the rat rod guys use that stuff and it sorta works but I understand it can smell prey strong on a hot day. I want to stop the empty tin can harmonics in the new doors but refuse to pay dynamat a premium if I can get a similar product for less money. But, the trick is reading between the lines in marketing materials because some of this stuff is just the cheap asphalt crap marked up and rebadged.

Honestly guys, isn't this stuff just the same stuff that others try to market specifically for the automotive industry???

Looks the same and you could double it up in the trouble spots. I'm sure a little adhesive would help it hold to the roof and doors and junk.

I will use this. I can't verify big money for something that has a name brand on it. Flame suit on :guns

I've used both Fatmat and 2nd Skin. Definitely like 2nd Skin better. It came in 12"x24" sheets and was a breeze to use. My son used FM but it came in a huge roll which was a hassle to lug around as well as having to cut. BTW, I used a wooden spoon to get into the door panels where my hand wouldn't fit.

67, I dont want to add that type of material to my car, it does not add mass loading. I have found that the factory style sound deadener with good carpet can do wonders for these cars and it is not very expensive. I did that and added some roll rubber on top of the factory stuff with good results

I am looking to stick a product to the inside of the doors, but want BUTYL and NOT ASPHALT.

I am fully versed on mass loading and have read those articles and they are not really new at all, I have used dynamat in the past back in the 80's.

My question was about price for a BUTYL based product, but I guess I never should have used the word dynamat directly.

I am not interested in the best or the thickest or what else exists in the realm of perceived sound absorbing technologies or anything like that, I honestly expected some manufacturer to have a comparable foil backed BUTYL based product for less money but I guess it never happened, most of the lesser expensive products use a mix of goo types and are not touting there product as a butyl based competitor..

Hence my original question.

At this point im just going to go cheap and not worry about it since it can off gas out of the window slots.

I got 100 sqft of the fatmat (without logo) on ebay for 125 shipped over the winter. It looks like it is up to 149 now. It is advertized as odorless, claims to be rubber based. I have no idea on performance, however I'd imagine that the foil on thes deadeners does good job to keep the odors (if any) at bay. The roofing products at the big box stores don't have the foil, so that is what got me to look at the no name fatmat. I got this to use on my chebby project.

My Mustang had those heavy 1/4" thick mats that just lay on the floors and some of that Lowes frost king applied to the interior cabin walls. It seems to work ok for me, but my doors could use some additional work and I plan to use some of the leftover fatmat on the Mustang's door skins.
