What's best glue for item that always underwater?

My swimming pool has a Hayward Phantom sweep. A small plastic tab on the housing that hold's one of the small wheels (so the sweep does not scrape the plaster) broke off. Replacement housing is $100+ to replace, so I'm going to try to glue the tab, instead.

The sweep is underwater 24/7, so which glue gives me the best chance of success? Thanks.

Think more in terms of "welding" it instead of gluing. You want something that will melt the plastic and allow it to meld together. Kinda like how the old Testors glue would work when you were building models. If you knew what kind of plastic (ABS, etc.) you were dealing with it would be easier to find the right stuff.

Really need to know what kind of plastic is involved to know if that type of welding would work. Not all plastics work the same ways.

I had a need for something like this last year, it may even have been for the sweep but I can't exactly recall. I went to Lowe's and checked their glue section for compatibility and ended up with Loctite-brand super glue, a 2-part/2-tube system, which claimed to work on all plastics. It worked, IIRC.

If you have a kayak place near you might be worth checking with them.

I know they use some sort of plastic welder to repair the bottom of boats from time to time. I've never needed their services but I was talking to the guy who owns the place local to me and he said they do a lot of that....

Doesn't JB weld make a water proof product? There is another one I found at Homie Depot that is a two part putty that is water proof. I have used it to hang hooks on the solid surface shower walls.

Is it like PVC? Use PVC glue.

If its like a model use model glue. Both melt the plastic to make one part.

Head out to a marine supply store they have several glues for below waterline adhesion

Thanks for all the info. I'm thinking that first I check with a local marine shop and then look at the JB Weld products at Lowes.

Cmayna: I told you the real story in confidence; not to blab it all over the internets. Yes, my love doll broke my fall from the trellis (see the ladder on the left) to the pool, but I clipped the pool sweep on the way in. Not my best plunge. Thanks to Tequila, the pain was minimal and no permanent scars.
