what is the size of water bypass hose on water pump, 5/8?

Can someone advise me what's the size of water bypass hose on water pump? Is it 5/8"?

Also, I'm replacing the water pump and will also pull the pressed-in barbs heater hose & bypass fittings to tap the pump since I've blocked off the heater (I'm currently using one of those rubber caps). Should the water pump be tapped for 1/2" NPT to fit a 1/2" NPT to 5/8 barb fitting?

Thanks for any info.

Without physically looking/measuring, I'd guess yes.

But....

If you're going to the trouble of removing the stub pipe on the water pump.... and then threading the hole.... why not just use an appropiately sized threaded "plug" instead of a threaded barb fitting?

Yeah, I should have explained it better. I'll tap both holes so they match in appearance, one (bypass hose) will use the barb fitting and the other one will be capped off with the NPT plug. In the future I may switch to using a heater again and then will install the threaded barb in the heater hole.

Any guess on whether the 1/2" NPT to 5/8 barb is the correct to tap the pump?

Thanks.

1/2" sounds about right, but it will be 100% evident once the hose fitting is removed. Are you trying to purchase the fitting before you get started?
