I'm with you Dennis. I hate change and saw nothing wrong with the old forum. However, what you and I don't see (and are not part of) is the constant maintenance involved with running a forum such as this. While it appears "transparent" to you and I, administrators (Steve and Sluggo) are working for hours each week behind the scenes to correct shortcomings of the older software. When an opportunity arises to upgrade the software so that they can hopefully resume normal sleep patterns.... how can you blame them? LOL.
 
What Dave said- a change like this is a ton of work. I doubt Sluggo & Steve are looking for work that won't provide a real benefit going forward.

Now, your local IT guys may be a different story, but Sluggo & Steve don't need the job security
 
It annoys me on my personal computers to no end to have all of these upgrades for no apparent reason. I can understand patches for security holes and such, but that's not what I am talking about.

For example, I have Office 2000 on all of my computers. Why? It works just fine for me, and I can deploy it on any and all computers I own. Starting with Office 2003, you can only deploy on two computers; any more, you need to buy another copy.

As long as software works for me, I am basically unwilling to change it just to upgrade it.

And yes, I still balance my checkbook every month with a pencil and paper. However, I just upgraded from a slide-rule to a calclulator to calculate gas mileage. :roll

I try to avoid using Microsoft software whenever possible these days. In a lot of cases, there is a free alternative out there on the web somewhere that is just as good, if not better. For example, instead of Microsoft Office, I use OpenOffice. There is a little learning curve, but it's free & they don't care how many PCs I install it on.

I will not use Internet Explorer these days unless a site requires me to.

Trust me, if it were avoidable much longer it would not have happened. I spent about 8 hours testing stuff to be sure I would not lose any of you important data and retain all boards, post and PMs.


I started preparing yesterday a 7AM and finish up at 1AM with about 8 more hours of stuff left to do, not including getting the gallery pictures converted to the new gallery.

Sorry. I certainly didn't mean to disparage your work. This site is one of my favorites, and I appreciate your efforts, but the change is still irksome.

No need to apologize. I appreciate you input. I'm finding it pretty irksome myself in some ways but I did not get one email today saying the database wigged out. :yah
