What did you get done on your Stang today????

Spent an hour last night wrestling the greasy old rack & pinion out of the car... Found a few more interesting things along the way. The rack was mounted with solid aluminum offset bushings :wth, and someone has tweaked the engine mounts to their lowest mounting point. Made clearance between the rack and oil pan non-existent. Also makes the urethane rack bushings that I picked up un-needed. :hs
Now I get to clean up 20 years worth of greasy grime, transfer a return line fitting, and finally start re-assembly. I still need to flush the old PS cooler, as that's the only piece of the entire system being re-used. After all the horror stories, I'm just crossing my fingers that all the new stuff works correctly out of the box... :roll

always wondered what a silver sharpie would do on those bezel "rings". looks good!

i finished up one of the lower control arm boxing plates & got it welded in.

also made up two new valance mounting brackets, the 1"wide, 9" long strips that bolt between the bumper arms & valance . $10 ea. repop just sounded too high, so made a pair for abot 10 cents...

also removed to old stock brake m/c & started making the battery tray reinforment panel that goes under the apron. again, i'm not paying $38 for a small , flat piece of sheetmetal! the repop doesn't even have the square nuts included that the battery tray bolts to... i don't get it. the whole apron costs $5 more than the little plate that reinforces it...

I'm thinking you should offer these items for sale. I'd be a buyer for both. That reminds me, I need to see if you can make a part. I'll text you in a bit.

Painted the gauge needles at lunch today. Found a paint pen at hobby lobby that's a dead nuts match.

Hey...that's one of those fake before and after......we can see it is a different gauge.......kinda like those weight loss pictures they show.

I used to use model pain on them but it has been so many years since I did a set, I forgot the color...that marker looks good.

I knew that was coming......................

I subbed the other gauge because the after picture of the oil pressure gauge did not have the proper angle to show the color difference. I'll plug the other pics in anyway.

Found a better solution for fake Chrome on the bezel. While I was in hobby lobby looking for the fluorescent Orange pen posted earlier, I ran across a krylon silver leafing pen and bought it just to have.
Leafing pen on the left, sharpie on the right.

Turns out the Orange pen is not dead nuts colorwise afterall. It's a tad lighter than original. Close enough for me.

Bezel before with sharpie.

After with leafing pen.

I finally got around to installing my one-piece headliner last Saturday. It required a bit of trimming to get it in all the way. I'll post pictures later.

More of the never ending body work, just one more spot to fix and then on to blocking and yes more body work. :yah

Got the car out of trailer, back on stands and started finding holes in parts.

I'm getting Murphy ready for the Utah National. Changed the oil and filter today (prayed to the god of oil filters for it to break free--what a pain!), and cleaned the underside of the front half. Back half and upper engine is on tomorrow's schedule, leaving only the interior.

Put new header gaskets on and took her out for a energetic drive. Ohhh she is doing quite well. The restrosound radio works great also. Now I have to load some music onto a flashdrive and cruise to some great driveing tunes.

Found enough time to dig out the NOS steering wheel I bought at the Pensacola Show and install the guts on it.

Spent the week looking for a new replacement Taurus electric fan motor withough any success. Ended up scabbing a motor and blade from a volvo that bolted on to the Taurus shroud I've been using without much effort. Got that done on Saturday and took it for a 40 mile drive. Today I washed and then gave it an overdue polish. What a difference the polish made... Hope to wax it this week.

I finished up getting the power rack installed. The worst part, I left for last, making the hoses. The small -6an hoses were easy to fab up. The -10an hose was a different story, getting those ends on was a real pain. I was almost to the point of putting on a 3 foot cheater bar on the end of the wrench. but I got them on and drove the mustang to work this morning.

Boy what a difference, it's gonna take a bit to get used to the power steering, but I love it!! :steer

Believe it or not, I actually worked on the Mustang this weekend. Dad and I did bodywork all day Saturday. We got the left rear quarter put on, and patched the left front quarter. I ground down all the welds in the doors, engine bay and trunk. We also started smithing in the rear quarters to the roof using Evercoat metal to metal. All in all, it was a very productive weekend. That much closer to paint! :yah
