VIN Question

I'm trying to figure out what my 428 came out of originally. There is a partial VIN stamped in the driver's side head, but some of the numbers are distorted. It appears to read '--292-4-' (with dashes indicating a number/letter I cannot read). Looking through the production VIN numbers for Mustangs for 68-69, I see the 292 falls outside the VIN's for Mustang. Would anyone happen to know what might have received a 292,-4- production number? I have attached the best picture I could get of the partial VIN.

I've found that Cougars for 68 and 69 started at 500,001 production number so that is ruled out I believe. I know this is a total crap shoot, but I figured it would be worth a shot to ask.

Not sure, but the first two characters look like 8A. A is for Atlanta assembly plant, I believe. You could find out which cars were made in Atlanta that year.

From the Cobra Jet website, this number should be year::engine::consecutive unit number. I thought the first number was either an 8 or a 9. I thought possibly a 9 because if you look, the number is stamped at a slight angle. Running a straight edge across the top of all of those numbers and the similarity of the circle to the other 9 that is visible, I think it might be a 9.
 
Upon further reading it appears I may have been mistaken. The Cobra Jet website shows a R code VIN stamped on the block. My assumption was the R was for the 428 designation, not the San Jose plant designation (which it very well may be). If in fact the second number is a plant code, it may be an A. Atlanta produced the Torino and you could get a 428SCJ in a 69 Torino making me lean towards the engine coming out of a Torino originally.

Also, for 68 in the Torino you could not get the SCJ as a motor, only the CJ. My motor has the lemans rods which is another reason I think that first digit is a 9.

Edit: The Fairlane, Torino, Ranchero Registry shows that the last VIN out of in Atlanta is 296885 which would fit with my thinking the production number is at 292+

I am out of town at the moment but I should be able to get that tomorrow night. I seem to recall it being a 69 block, but could be wrong about that. I'll post up for sure when I check it out.
 
Block casting date is 9E26 (May 26, 1969 if memory of how to read that code serves me). The block also has DIF stamped on it which means Dearborn Foundary I believe (again, if memory serves me).
