yep. I'm gonna make a trailer. When ever we travel I can't fit everything in the car (suitcases, coolers, lawn chairs, etc.)

I always wanted to make a truck-bed trailer using a '66 Ford Pickup bed, painted Dirty Red just like my coupe, but that's another thing I'll never get around to.

I need to jack that car up for over winter storage here in the next few days. I'll snap some pictures for you when I get out there so you can see. My car is a '69, but I assume they all mount similarly.

I remember when my dad had a hitch installed on his '65 coupe and we hauled a U-Haul trailer with our stuff from Oregon to Idaho, back when I was about 3 years old.

First picture is of the left hand hole in the body behind the bumper. The hitch hole is the circled one on the right:

Second picture is of the mounting point at the rear of the trunk floor:

The rear valence had been severely damaged early on during my brother's ownership and he simply cut the center out in order to keep the back-up lights. When I went to install the repro valence, I could not for the life of me figure out how it would go on with the hitch in place, so I took it off.

I assume this was a dealer option, as it's not listed on my Marti report.

That's right, only a Ford accessory part. Most of the early stangs I've owned had holes where someone had a trailer hitch on it at some time. Kinda annoying to have to fill those big holes in front of the gas tank!

This is waht gave me the idea. I helped my buddy cut a doner coupe up to get the frame rails and floor for his 65. While it was sitting their I thought, that would make a cool trailer. The car sitting next to the one we cut is still there. I'm gonna try to get it for my trailer. It's a 68.

What do you think the weight capacity is for a hitch like this? Would it be like a class 1 or 2?
Bolting into the floor and tail panel doesn't seam to be the strongest mounting points...
maybe I would be better to get a little motorcycle trailer?

I think the one Frank has and the one you have are different. Look how close Franks mounted to the fuel filler, yours looks wider, like it mounts to the bumper braket bolts.

mine appears to bolt directly to the bumper itself. It's angled right at the ends like it would mate to the bumper angle, it is wide too...
