If I'm only going to use a torch for heat do I need anything other then an O2 tank?

The O2 as in oxygen is for the cutting and hotter burn in the oxy/acetylene setup. For just heating you can use acetylene by itself. What are you trying to heat?

Frozen bolts, shafts etc. So I just need acetylene ? And if I progress to cutting add O2?

Propane, mapp gas, acetylene can all work depending on how much heat you need. Adding Oxygen to Mapp or Acetylene will produce a hotter flame whether you are cutting or not. Mapp gas and Oxygen can melt steel and I used that often before I got an oxy-acetylene setup.
