The 5.5 million dollar 64.5 mustang is back on VMF

Most surprising thing from that thread?

They still haven't figured out how to make all the avatars there a reasonable size.

Those guys with that mustang are nuts. I have no clue whether it's valid in any way or not, but they seem too fishy to demand such a high price.

I know I might be a minority, but nothing could be less interesting to me than "This is the first mustang ever produced, ever ever ever" Just the first of millions and millions.

"APPRAISED VALUE: $1,000,000
CAN BE YOURS FOR ONLY $74,998"

ROTFLMFAO

At least the price is somewhat realistic now. Unfortunately, I believe the best path to take with this car is to disassemble and restore.

Just seemed like he might have been trying to get Ford interested in it. You know," This guy's got 212, and you know it's the #1 vert. We must have it for the collection.". Just didn't work out that way for him.

If there was REAL documentation from Ford that said "This is the FIRST one that rolled off the line on March 9th, 1964", it would add more intrinsic value. But, the fact of the matter is there are earlier, more interesting cars which trump any significance of this one.

Since the 211 coupe was found, probably put a damper on all their "first of" claims. I notice that the new description does not claim it was the first one sold whereas before that was one of their big acclaims.

Thanks for posting that -- I had not heard about 211 before. It occurred to me while reading the 211 story that it was probably a pretty common occurrence. Ford ships one display model to all their dealerships to build interest while they ramp up inventory. Someone with money or well-connected at the dealership makes a deal to buy the demo on the spot. Naturally, they would all be early production numbers. One wonders where they all ended up, if any others escaped the crusher.

To pore some oil on the fire , look at this :
it seems an earlier one is in france and origenal was for the Belgium market.
