Always on vacation!
Well, the other company that does utility locating here in Southern Utah has offered me $3.00 an hour more to go to work with them.

The drawbacks are that I would be back in a POS Ranger instead of the new 1400 miles F150 and I would loose my supplemental life insurance. I also loose the three paid holidays we get and start over with my vacation time. There is more OT in the summer and I think the $6200 a year raise is worth it.

They locate Phone which is not as easy as the gas I locate now, but about the same as locating the CATV I locate now.

Amber told me I could take the additional $6000 a year and put it in an account for the finishing of the Mustangs, shooting, fishing and my other hobbies.

All in all I think the change will be worth it. The management there is more laid back and less stress. I have known the manager for two years now. He has become a pretty good friend.

Worst case, I can got back to driving.

Less stress is ughhhhhhhhh priceless. Good luck either way.

The job itself is a bit harder, phone is harder to locate than gas, and CATV. They have a different outlook on things. They look at how many jobs you are doing a day and how much damage you have. If you have zero damage and carry a reasonable ticket load, they just leave you to your own devices.

The company I am with now, looks at the production daily and scrutinizes every picture from every ticket. That in itself is worth the move. Both companies do some really dumb things, each a bit different, but this is to be expected.

I do have to give up my new F150 for a beat up Ranger. Not thrilled about that. I am sure I will get over it when i order the new rear springs and traction bars for my 65 and have the paint fixed on the 67.

As long as I have a choice I will not use a personal vehicle again for work and get paid for my gas. I have a '04 F-150 with 257k on it, but it is maintained by Raceway Ford. My last job I had a little Ranger with a shell on the back and powered by 2.3 4 banger. All that I can say about the 4 banger is that it got better gas mileage, but you can really hear the 4 banger working. But the point is that a company car is a company car, it just has to get you from point A to point B. The other point is when you give them your resignation, maybe they will match your new offer. Who knows? Keep an open mind. All companies do dumb things. My management is also laid back and less stress, but management is management and they want the worker bees (you and me) to produce. And the days when things just do not go right is when I feel the stress. Does not happen often, but today was one of them. Good luck on your choice.

Tim, the problem with them offering to match the wage, once the window of opportunity has closed, the manager here with do what she can to get even with me. I will have hell to pay! You know god hath no fury like a woman Scorned!

I feel as though when I let the cat out of the bag, it is the point of no return.

I also learned the best truck in the world is a company truck! I really don't care about the truck so much, but I will miss my new F150 a lot! It has to be one of the nicest work trucks I've ever seen. Nice interior, CD, Aux, SYNC, cruise, steering wheel controls, power windows and locks. I like it enough, I would buy one.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but the tax man will be sure to take a bite out of that diffference. Good luck with the new job.

At least 1/2 my income is tax exempt, so if I can get more and have a tax problem, the net result will still be more.
