Subframe Connectors

Had a buddy over the other night to look at the Mustang. He said it would be a good idea to put subframe connectors on it. Ok I am game but what ones do I need. Should I install weld on or bolt on and is one brand better than the next?

Subframe connectors need to be welded in, if they're going to do any good. There's many on the the market. I think the Tinman ones are the best on the market, but probably a little more difficult to install because of it. With them, you have to cut open the end of the front subframe and then the connectors go inside the front sub frame and get plug welded to them, as well as welded all around the opening of the subframe. IMHO, the Tinman connectors are the next best thing to a full frame.

A couple weeks ago, I wanted to look at my power steering lines. I put floor jack under the frame rail right by the torque box. After I jacked the front wheel off the ground, I looked back and the rear wheel was just as far off the ground. I was impressed that they stiffened the car that much.

Here's a pic from the day they were installed. You can see the 2 plug welds in the frame rail, if you look closely.

Don't go with the bolt ons....it wouldn't cost more than $50 - $100 to have a muffler shop or other shop in your area weld them in.

CJ Pony parts catalog I believe suggest buying the bolt on but then welding them in...never figured that one out.

I'd go the weld in route just because I personally think welding is a lot of fun and I don't get the chance to use my welder that often, LOL!

I didn't like the idea of chopping up my frame rail end to install the Tin Mans but a couple of friends have pretty much convinced me that is the route I need to go and I am seriously leaning that direction at the moment but I have a few months before I'd have the money because sub-frames are a few projects down my too do list.

I am using Maier SFC's on my daughters 65 coupe and will use them also on Shag. More weld points than most other SFC's and they do not chop into the ends of the front frame rails. They are rounds as well.

I went with the Tinmans after just about everyone suggested them. Installation was easy and fit was great. Hopefully in the next year, I'll get to test them on the road! :craz

I thought the SN95's had subframe connectors installed from the factory (????)
These for your Dynacorn? I used Compition Engineering weld-in SubFrame connectors. No cutting on the frame required but they do cut thru the rear floor pan. No clearance issues and plenty strong!

Sorry should have said that these are for the 69 Dynacorn body. It sounds like the weld on are the way to go. I will check into all the ones you listed so far. Also want to check out the total control products ones. Has anyone tried them?

I'd rather not cut my rails for the Tinman yet want a square connector so it blends in with the OEM rails. I know Maier and TCP are round, who are the other suppliers of good, square-tube connectors?
