Subframe connectors?

How important are they to have? Whats the benefits of having them? :shrug I had someone ask me if Gert has them and they said I should look into putting some on if I don't have them.
 
Are you going to run the car hard? If so, they are good to stiffen up the unibody. If not, spend the money on something else.


IMO of course.
 
Gerts mainly going to be for cruising around town in and possibly an occasional trip with the car club to the drag strip.
 
They would not be the first thing I'd do to her, but after you clean up the steering, brakes, etc. subframe connectors make the feel more like a newer car. The cheap ones work fairly well, but you want weld in units, not bolt in. If you do much of that dragging, or get into higher power levels, they are a must to prevent flex.
 
Gotcha. I was just worried adding them might have been something I was over looking safety wise for daily street driving. *IF* I ever add them, it would be way down on the list. I got better and more important things to save $ for.

I re-routed Shag's fuel line just for the plans of installing SFC's. Now that I have the car running.....I'm reconsidering even bothering to install them for I also know that I will never drive Shag hard.
 
:thu With the exception of a concours original I always add them. If you ever plan on doing a left hand burnout at from a stoplight, etc. (body roll combining with torque direction) it's good insurance that you dont tweak the unibody. After you've spent 3 or 4 days aligning body panels by yourself on a couple of cars you wont want to have to do it twice on a given car.

Even when my fox body was bone stock with an automatic cracked the floor boards from the rear inside bucket seat bolts about two inches towards the center hump and those are stiffer chassis.

+1 on the weld in, bolt in isnt worth its weight for twisting, might help a little for sag when on a lift, etc.

On the 70 restomod I am building, hopefully with a stroker, I am going with Total Controls X Brace, subframes and driveshaft loop.
 
I don't plan on doing any burnouts or crazy driving. Just driving around town (speed limit from 35-70mph) with the occasional trip down to the drag strip.
