Striped the 11

+1.

Is there a family connection with that squadron?

No. I have been into WWII aircraft and nose art in particular since I was about 5 years old.

I thought about using one from a Messerschmitt 109 and replacing the planes he's bashing with the bat and stomping on with a cumaro and a honda[nb]see attachment[/nb] but it's even more obscure than the agitated avian.

thats the insignia of the 334th fighter squadron, 4th fighter group, 8th usaaf.

i REALLY like the addition of this in the striping as i collect that stuff too.
Yea thanks, i knew the reference to the p-51s, but was unsure of the history or squadron. Specifically why the eagle faced inward. I always thought they artistically faced outward unless there was another meaning. For example, the mustang pony, and snakes all face the front on both sides.

To me, facing rearward is more of a defensive stance. On a fighter plane you would expect a little more aggression.

Knowing that sluggo is into that stuff, i wondered if he knew why it wasn't facing forward.

Seems like some were mounted facing forward on the right side of the plane.....or was the pic flipped by mistake....

I have seen emblems swapped direction from side to side with no reason for the direction other than ease of duplication. Emblem choice is just a basic reason for the emblem being used for that squadron/unit, a lot of the time the direction means nothing. Many were painted free hand using a drawing as an example. The reversal of the pattern was difficult for some "artists" of old. With modern technology, it is a lot different.

Either way, it looks good on the local car.......

It finally hit me, I have that model of the Shangri-La P-51B. For unk reason, it only includes one of the logos.

I'm clearing out some old models and this was one slated to be given away, let me know if you want it.

It was only painted on one side of his mount.

I took the basic design into illustrator and redid it using smoother lines and having my way with the colors. I wanted to make it recognizable yet cleaned up. Like the design itself, I took a little liberty with the application.

As for the kit I'm pretty sure I have it in stock. I have 130+ 1/48th and 1/32nd unstarted airplane models stuffed in every closet in the house. No less than 10 in various stages of completion. I used to build quite regularily and go to IPMS events. I think building commission pieces is what killed it for me. Nothing like having a deadline on what used to be your hobby to change your perspective on it.

BTW,

If you want to see some pretty cool not so politically correct nose art, look at some of the stuff the 509th composite bomb group did.

No 5.0 badges. What color yellow is that?

5.0 badges are shelved. It is called Yellow Blaze. It appears to be school bus yellow with pearl overcoat. It's one of two options on the car at 495.00. The other is 3.73 gears.

Pretty frigging amazing in person. one of those colors you love or hate. Personally, I dig the shit out of it.

According to my research, only 292 GTs were made that color. Total production somewhere in the 500s including all Mustangs produced that year. Less than 1% (.86)

Should not see too many in the neighborhood.

I still like the name Ford used before Blaze. That would be Screaming Yellow. :yah
