Speedometer?

One of my winter projects is replacing the old factory gauges with new Autometer's.
I have the small gauges figured out, I purchased the tach already (rebate).
My question is with the speedometer, more about the sending unit at the transmission.
Does the driven gear attach to the sender like it does on the old cable or is it connected another way?

Are you going with a mechanical or electric speedometer? I'm assuming that you're going with an electronic speedo, since you mentioned sender. I'm running an electric Autometer speedo, and I just used a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) from an '89 mustang. I placed whatever gear that I had laying around that would work with the TKO (since I made that switch also). Just use whatever gear you had on the end of the cable. It's attached the same way with the clip. You need to find a 2 mile stretch of road to calibrate the speedo. The more accurate 2 mile stretch you can find the more accurate your speedo will be. I used the mile markers on the nearby highway to set mine.

Yes I'm going with an electric speedo and was going to get the Autometer sender for the trans.
Just wondering if the gear connects to the Autometer sender the same way as on the stock cable, with the clip.

I Purchased a set of autometer gauges and they actually came with a sending unit that hooked to the end of the speedo cable, but I couldnt get it to work properly, it always said I was going 20-25mph no matter how fast I drove. I bought the sending unit that slides into the trans where the speedo cable would go and it worked perfectly. Take the nylon gear off the cable, put it on the sender, and install, hook up the wires and your done.
