shaving drip rails

I know that this has been discussed before, but, did anybody catch Gearz? Stacey just cut off the drip rail on a 67 Cougar then welded up the seam. I've seen it done that way on the 67-72 Chevy's, but thought it was more complicated than this on the vintage Stangs.

That is basically it. Just make sure all the layers are welded. That is a project I hope my son and I can do this coming winter.

He used a sawzall and cut it tight on the roof line, then just welded it the left over seam. I've seen where others just cut the vertical portion at the 90, then bent the remaining metal up, then welded it.

I have seen a video where they cut about a foot in length off the rail and then weld and repeat until it was done. That is what we plan to do.

The weatherstripping trim and other trim inside the window won't be affected at all will it?

that is the safest way.go in small increments to keep things in shape & also cut down on welding warpage. when welding, just do small tacks & move around alot. dont start running a solid bead or your roof will look like a carnival ride when you are finished.

When I looked and measured mine, It looked like should be fine. I had to measure since the car in the video was a chebby.
