Shag's front sheetmetal installed

Yesterday JeffTepper, KBMWRS and AbrahamH came over to help me install the front clip onto Shag. First hood, then fenders, then stoneguard, then valance and bumper. Though we were all mentally ready and I have everything all lined up, the left fender was a real biatchhh to get aligned to the door. We spent way too much time on it as compared to the RH side and it still isn't perfect.

But WTF! I don't want Shag perfect. He needs to have his little imperfections so I can drive it like I stole it.

Don the Ferrari guy next door came over to help get everything aligned and his stash of cool tools just made things so much easier.

Here's some pics. Though it might look great, I still have a lot of fine tuning, tightening down and buttoning up before I am 100% satisfied. Still need to get a grill and finish wiring up the headlights, etc.

Sun-Update w/correction: This is what I get for trying to rush this post out before dinner yesterday. Did not finish my text

Reason why so many (above) were attempting to attach the bumper is because we had a fitment issue. Found that one of the bumper brackets would not line up with the correct hole and thus I had to modify the bracket. We removed the bumper and called it a day. Yesterday (Sat) am, I tweaked the bracket and installed the bumper by myself.

Very cool Craig!

I have to say I'm jealous seeing 3 guys put that bumper on. I did mine myself and was scared half to death the whole time I was going to put a major scratch in the paint. Better to be lucky than good, I say.

How do you like that hood molding? I hate how it has the burrs on the ends, very annoying (catches on my shirt, rags, etc.), not sure if they will file down or if I should just live with it.

I actually put old socks on the end of mine when I installed mine; as I did mine by myself too.
 
I'm glad to see:

1) Mikey is wearing a belt. Otherwise he'd be showing some arse crack.

2) Mikey has taken ergonic seating training as he's placed his package safely in an adjustable chair.

3) I thought I saw Sacbill but alas it was Craigster.

4) Craig, your car is looking fine and I'd stop worrying over fender alignments. You've got lots more of a $hitpile to shovel before you get Shag roadworthy!

Sam, your bumper comment just slapped me :beat I just realized I forgot to add some text between the 3rd and 4th pic. This is what I get for rushing a post before dinner. So go back up there and read my correction.

That hood molding sucks. Need to remove it and tweak the ends to be a little more flush against the hood. And yes the ends are a little rough. My biggest issue is that the screw holes are way too big for the stock screws. I ended up with some very short #10 sheetmetal screws.

Jeremy- weren't those the only socks you owned? Did you remove them when done?

OTS- (That's Otis for OpentrackerSteve), Yes, I had to plead Mikey in wearing that belt. No plumber smiling while we're working on the car. Way to distracting.

Pete-Thanks for the wheel advice. They do look fantastic...yes?

John-Haven't picked tire size or brand but am leaning to 16" x ? x ?. Traditional Torque Thrust D rims.


Interior: Working on trap door today. Hope to have all the interior panels to the painter in a week or less. Need to quickly pull down the seats to prepare them for the upholstery guy.

Glass: Finished polising out the stratches in the rear glass. As soon as I get the headliner, the car goes to the glass guy. End of this coming week? Need to quickly get the dash pad so I can rough it into place before the car goes to glass.

MITM? Hell John, I'm trying to make it to SAAC35, maybe not complete but be there. I've had this car apart way too long. Need to "get er done".

Today, I'm working on the front end electrical hook up, install front turn signal fixtures, etc.

I'm planning to install a 67 standard grill and keep it all black with no horse, corral, etc. As with Red, I am starting out with no front bumper guards. Like the looks of no chrome below the bumper.
 
Nice work, guys. Did WaldoPro have the day off or something?

I don't see any beer bottles, chronic pipes, or tie-dye shirts. Please don't tell me the work was done while you were sober.
 
I like the wheels too but but was wondering if you were going to run hub caps, and if so, which ones? The little dog dish type or the deluxe wheel covers? Maybe some wide white walls and wire hubcaps would look nice also...

but seriously, that thing looks good Craig! I still think it's too nice to drive!

That car is screaming for a billet grill! It would look awesome, and they really are not that expensive.
 
Billet Grill? Not too sure about that look. For now I'll start out with the stock 67 grill painted black. Later if I feel I need to add bling, I'll consider a billet grill.
 
Shag is looking good... very nice work. I prefer the stock grill over the billet too... I removed the runnign horse and small corral but kept the large outer corral and think it a distinctive but not overstated look.

I did the opposite. I kept the horse and small corral but didn't use the large outer corral.

It is good we don't have to drive the same car, or the same car the way Ford built them.
 
Geez Sam, do we need to start consulting each other just to make sure we don't copy each other? What color is your fuel line? It better not be silverish or stainless steel. Thank goodness I'm not going with green carpeting.

Sounds like neither will be out of the garage for a while. By then, paint fade should differentiate the two......
