RV starter relay

I'm having problems with my RV generator.

The generator started fine 3 weeks ago and I just got it out of storage for a trip we are taking Thursday and it won't start. I took the cover off, tried starting it at the generator, and I get a clicking sound. Used a voltage tester and have 13+ volts on the supply side (MH is on shore power right now) and no voltage on the output side of the relay.

It has a stud post on either side and two AWG type connectors.

Does anybody recognize that style of relay and know the part number? Its on an Onan microquiet 4k generator. I'd need to pick one up at a local auto parts store or order online tonight/tomorrow morning with next day shipping.

Might try here..http://www.adventurerv.net/..not sure if they have what you need but are good to deal with.

As for the problem, my gen. did the same thing to me. I found out one of my 6 volt batteries was dead and bad. Acted the same way yours is. I was ready to tear into the gen. when I decided to put a meter on the batteries while I hit the starter. Meter went down fast. Even jumping the two 6 volts did not work. R&R'd the two batteries and all was well again.

Talking with my repair guy, he says most of the time it is a battery problem and owners will replace parts with no help......

Thanks Pete. Battery was just bought about 3 months ago. Its plugged in right now and charging. I'll check it in the morning and if it does the same thing I'll order the relay. Can't imagine its the battery but will verify. Like I said, the relay has 13V on the supply side.

Yep....mine showed 13 volts at the solenoid too. As soon as I hit either the dash starter button or the remote one on the gen. voltage took a dive. Charged them over night.....same thing. Really thought the starter or solenoid was hanging and drawing the voltage down. Mine has two 6 volt deep cycle batteries and one was bad, the other was good....two years old.

Do you have an aux. start button that connects all the batteries together for extra starting power? Mine does and it works for both the engine battery and the house/gen. batteries. That would start mine by doing the boost. Real aggravating. I run my gen. for about 30 min. each month to keep it active.

It looks like a regular Ford starter relay would work....just modify the two wiring plugs for the posts.

Thanks Pete. I just pulled the battery and will take it in today to get it checked. With shore power unplugged it was at 12.65V. The intelli-power converter was putting out 13.55V.

Good......just send me a case of Wattles.....lol.

Glad my experiences could be of help.
