Rapid Rabbit's 70 Stang

At the hotel in Champaign Il, looks like this truck wanted to see the 70 up close!

Wow 2 years and I haven't needed to do anything to the car. Just driving the hell out it.

But, now it's time for some upgrades.

1. Replace bent rear axle and 2 new rear tires.

2. Install new EFI fuel tank

3. Relocate battery to trunk.

Winter was just too brutal this year so they got put off. Plus my new tank was backordered until April.

how did you know your axle was bent? curious as I may have one on another car (not my Mustang)
I started getting a bad vibration in the rear, I had the tires checked for balance and they said it was probably the axle. So I put it up on Jacks and ran the rear wheel and it was wobbling pretty visibly so I assume it's the axle.

I also mounted 2 new tires for the rear while I was at it since the ones on there are about 12 years old. Haven't put it back together yet though.

I've gone through the same process. I did measure TIR on the axle flange on the side that wobbled. It's a Moser 9" with 31 splines. Anyway, I got TIR of .007" which seems like a lot. can't find a spec anywhere on what it should be. Took the wheel to shop that straightens wheels and he said it was "normal" but didn't give me any numbers. But car shakes on jack stands and the right rear wheel visibly wobbles (like egg shaped).

Put in the new axle and pulled the old tank or today.

Found the little filter on the pickup had come off inside the tank.

Trying to decide if I should paint the new tank or have it coated, but I want to get it in ASAP as Summer is finally here.

I just love new parts! On my new tank, I could have shaved my legs with the sharp edges that it had( I ground the edges)!

great looking tank...I assume it is painted already? I don't think I would coat it with anything, but maybe paint it to hide it from sight?

Can't wait to hear how it performs!

They come powder coated these days (the good ones) on the exterior. Spraying the bottom side with bedliner is a good idea to make it kind of disappear and also deaden the sound of any rock impacts, etc.

Nice, what's your impression of the tank? I plan on ordering the same one soon, Aeromotive 18147? Where'd you find the best deal?

Yes it's 18147. I bought it from summit. It's the same price everywhere, but summit does $50 off $500 coupon so I got it for $450.

So far it looks very well made.
