Power Steering?

I have the original style power steering in my car...original or not I don't know but either way it's low on fluid.

I thought I had read somewhere I could use type F tranny fluid.

Can I use that or should I try to find the type A or whatever it mentions on the dip stick?

You got it right - Type F ATF (automatic transmission fluid) they used Type F in PS and auto trans., same stuff. Have to look at my '67 dipstick, didn't realize they printed it on there, maybe the 'A' is an F but worn? Never heard of type A?
You don't have your car year, trans, engine, etc. in your sig but I'm pretty sure '64> autos took Type F.

'66 Coupe, original C4, 70's era 302 but most of the accessories attached to the motor (alternator, p/s, etc) are either original or reproduction.

Type A is straight out of the stone ages, it was the ATF standard sometime in the 40s or something like that.

It might not be the "right" thing to do, but I've run generic dexron/mercon/everything no-name ATF in every PS system that called for some kind of ATF and haven't had a problem in ~160k miles total.
