Possible stupid question

I have a potentially stupid question but I have a new set of valve covers. Getting the car pretty for the local club's charity show in November.

On the attached picture...what is the bracket that I circled for and is it possible to remove it? From what I can tell I don't need it...

I was thinking it might be for plug wires.

I'll have to think about it, still debating what to do about the plug wires with regards to what sort of looms to use, etc.

If I elect to remove the things, what's the plan of action. They appear to be riveted on.

Drill out the rivets and replace (to fill the holes) with new rivets or screws. You could also use something like JB Weld or an epoxy as a filler too, I suppose. Hard to see exactly what you would be dealing with from the picture.

Not a fan of those having used them over the years. They mount under your valve cover bolts. Not a very firm mount and they tend to move around and twist a lot.

Note it says it only works with 7mm or 8mm wires. I have Ford Racing wires, which I believe to be 9mm, and they are too thick for those wire separators you have linked there.

I am running 8's at the moment but I've been tempted to change to 7's.

Part of my issue with getting the wires somewhat neatly arranged is my distributor cap seems too crowded and I have been wondering if 7's would fit a little better / a little less crowded.

I had 7's on my car until a few months ago. One of the old wires found a resting spot on one of the exhaust manifolds and needless to say it was time for a change.
