Part of the Month>>>

We have had a suggestion for the Part of the Month (POTM) to be started. In the past, there was some discussion that pertained to shop made vs home made. There can be a difference when comparing the two and we need to keep the contest rules pretty even. How about some input from the masses as to how to get this going......or is it not something you would see working. Are there enough new parts made each month to have a contest? Using all the items from the past would not really be good for the future/long term of the contest.

Maybe not a contest but a section for new parts where the person could enter info, pics, and other important info for all to look at......with no response from anyone....just pics and info which makes it easy to look thru.

Don't know....looking for ideas as this cannot be a one man show.

Just hand the trophy to Jeremy every month. I'm not sure anyone else can touch his part, aka entire vehicle, making skills.

I suggest we give the part of the month a topic such as coilover suspension kits. People could post their favorite parts, explain why they like it and then a vote at the end of the month. It may make it easier for people evaluating what parts to put on their car. :shrug

I'm going to throw out that I don't think it needs to be a contest, just more of a good information, ie, something we would want to know about. I also think for something to be listed, it has to be purchased, installed, and function checked. By purchased I don't mean to exclude somebody who makes their own part, but I do mean to exclude somebody coming on here trying to hawk their wares.

For example, I have recently purchased and installed a vintage air conversion kit, but it hasn't been charged yet and cold air blown out. That shouldn't qualify.

Point being, this should be different from the parts counter section in a magazine such as Mustang Monthly, it should carry some implied credibility with the new idea/new part in that the part was tested and works as advertised.

Agreed, there are enough magazines hawking new bolt in parts of the month. Lets have something original and organic which features the fabrication or restoration abilities of the members here and helps others who have considered the mod but are hesitant to jump in.

Example, I just soundproofed an 86 gt I picked up and by researching and doing it figured out a number of tricks which minimize the weight impact but are still effective against road noise. Now when I soundproof my 67 I know exactly what I need and how to go about it. There are multiple products out there (Rammmat, Dynamat, Second Skin, Quick Roof) and I know that others with questions could use unbiased information. But until you order the products you have no idea how they compare.

Hmmmm......

Parts you buy vs parts you make. We have a vendor page to comment on the good and bad of a vendor or product from a certain company.

I was looking more for a place to show off the skills of our members. I think a board for products made by a member, installed and used, with some info of how it was made. We don't need to make it a contest....just a songle place to look at what our members do....except a certain one building a rat rod....he has his own space.

Good comments all around.

If you want to keep it simple and probably get more folks involved just start a new thread every week like "Show Pete your...[Insert part here]"... things like shifter handles, control arms, door panels, rear end cover... favorite custom or modified part etc...
