I media blasted my car except for the engine bay. I wanted it to be a roller. I still had my steering box rebuilt again just to be safe. The guy said he didn't see any media but he wanted to do a complete tear down and clean. I tossed all the other suspension components on the car. I had removed everything but still wish I had built a dolly for it.

Unless 100% necessary don't do it. I still have sand and crap in my frame rails.

The worse part for me is my car didn't need to be blasted I just wanted to get any and all rust. In the end I am not sure I improved anything but created a lot of opportunity for new rust because the body wasn't primed for quite a while in the body shop.

Problem with soda is the residue left behind that requires proper clean-up or you can have paint issues. The guy I use won't touch it. He uses multiple other medias when cleaning a full car depending on condition, etc. He is one of a very few who will also take on a glass Vette. Knows his craft very well.

+1......That's how I do it. I use a gallon of "Aircraft Stripper" first on "all" of the paint to be removed and let it sit overnight and dry. The DA will make quick work of the flat surfaces and the blaster will easily clean the hard to reach areas (jams, cowl vent, pinch welds and yaty yaty). On buildup you may have to repeat.

There's nothing wrong with driving a multicolored car. Mine is turd brown from the windshield back and primer black (and grey if I'm running the gt350 hoot). Is it ugly? YES. But I don't have to worry about rock chips and idiots in our work parking lot, who don't know how to open their door. Some day (probably when I'm rich and famous) I'll get it painted, but for now, I'm having too much fun driving her!!!

Totally agree with Rob. Enjoy it a while and save and prepare yourself totally for the tear-down and blasting.
Get things how you want them mechanically during this drive period and then when you're ready tear it down and get-r-done.
 
We stripped the 67 by hand. I also stripped a 68 Bug and primed it in two days with stripper and a case of beer.

Since I don't drink any more, It will likely take me the next five years to get my 65 done....

I do have to have some work done on the 67 paint. I think I will just take it to a shop and pay them to fix it. I am getting lazy in my old age!

Take it to a reasonable shop and get a driver paint job put on it and you will be happy for years to come. When the time is right you can take her apart again and have it blasted. With it protected with paint, you shouldn't have to worry about anything getting worse.
