Ole Shelby and Ford up to their old tricks....

I don't understand the attraction for this overweight, overpriced car. If I had enough disposable cash to buy that POS, I'd buy a Ferrari instead.

Those parts prices are just ridiculous! I know that's how some people make their money (selling unit low, selling replacement parts high), but it's not an ideal I subscribe to.
 
Wow, I guess it's not so bad not to be filthy rich. I just have to put up with everyday Bullsh*t and not the kind in that thread.
 
If you can afford the car, you should be able to afford to fix it. I sell auto parts and tend to get tired of people coming in griping about how expensive this and that is for their brand new BMW or Mercedes or VW. Guess what, it's an expensive car for a reason. It's not a Civic or Taurus, parts aren't cheap, and they often have to come from the OE manufacturer.

If you buy a GT500KR, or an M3, or an A8, you're buying it knowing that a lot of parts that go on it are hand made or very limited production. Fixing it outside of warranty is going to cost a small fortune, assuming you want those same parts put back on.

Now, I'm not saying the owner is being treated fairly, but he shouldn't be all that suprised. Part of what you're paying for with the KR is exclusivity. There just aren't that many, and there aren't even any clones that use authentic KR parts.
 
WTF?!!!...

I just read all 12 pages of that thread, and it's not the outrageous prices Shelby charges for their parts that gets me riled up (although ridiculous), it's how Shelby America has conducted its business that really disgusts me. I can't believe how they treated one of their loyal, big $$$ spending customers with lies, deceit and over-charges. All the KR owner wanted was to get his car repaired after an accident. It's been about 3 months, and not once has Shelby America offered an apology, nor have they resolved the issue. Sadly, in the end, Shelby will probably just file more law suits.

I only made it to page 7 yesterday and then got busy. I need to finish reading that thread.... is there a condensed version?

Did the owner ever get his car fixed?

I can understand the whole "exclusivity" issue, but c'mon really? $21,000 + for a replacement hood? $2,000 for 1 wheel?

I would expect KR insurance policies to skyrocket!
 
Sounds like someone is getting hosed if you can get the Super Snake conversion with EVERYTHING for $29k. I think they added a digit to each part's price. When a replacement hood costs 25% of the entire vehicles cost, that right there is price gouging and could possibly be illegal.

As of 10/31, the car still wasn't fixed. Shelby has been the real weak link in the entire ordeal. And you're definitely right... it's going to be damn expensive to ensure a KR as soon as all the insurance companies get notice about the ridiculous replacement part prices!
