Oil Pump install

Getting ready to put the pump/shaft in so I can button up the Canton 8qt. pan. Oil pump is a standard Melling unit that's been cleaned up (blueprinted?).
I take it there's nothing used (sealant) on either of the 2 oil pump gaskets? Can't remember, last time I did this was 20yrs. ago on a 351W.

I almost had 2 questions until I unwrapped the new ARP shaft and noticed they were smart enough to put "UP" on the shaft for me! eter

Should I run some oil in the pump and give a few twists or just prime it once the pans on and full?

Dry gasket should be fine, no need to pre-prime before priming the pump. Make sure to check the clearance between the pickup and the pan with some clay or playdough!

Yep ! you have to check this prior installation.

Last summer my son lost oil pressure on his 351W based motor. Diagnosis led us find the oil pump's pickup tube had "fallen off" of the pump. WTF? You may want to coat the bolts for the pickup tube with a thread locker for extra security.

Thanks guys, I'll be verifying that I have the right pickup with some clay and i've got locktite for those bolts, didn't think of that. All 4 bolts have lock washers but the extra threadlocker won't hurt.
