Picked up my new welder at the post office this morning and I must say I'm impressed with how well it works. It's a Hobart Trek 180 that runs off of batteries and charges on a 110v circuit. First impressions are that the quality of the unit and parts are quite durable, especially the lead for the stinger - but the ground clamp does seem a bit weak. I took it out of the box, hooked everything up, set the power on 7 and the wire speed on 80 and ran a few beads on some 3/16" angle without even plugging it in! It welded better than I thought it would, probably due to the 180 amp max output. Last year I bought a Firepower FP130 and was very disappointed with the quality and performance. The Trek 180 with the inverter technology puts it in the power range of a 220 welder yet it only needs 12 amps on a 110 circuit! Now its time to put this thing to work and take advantage of the Hobart Warranty if there's any problems. I might actually get some work done on the Mustang this summer!
