Todd Dietrich (obsidianspider) helped me out in envisioning a new website for my business. I think we came up with something that works really nice. Let me know what you all think. (www.cars-by-chris.com) I do plan on having a Store on the site but need to get enough product...LOL
Thanks to Brian Benthin for some input as well.
Let me know!

That's really cool, I like the drawing board look really 3D compared to a lot of 'flat' looking sites homepage.
Be sure to add more info like sending a min. # of pics of all sides of the car (4) if necessary, etc. to make sure your customers get what they want and maybe offer different sizes, framed/not, reprints, screenprint for shirts, car show sign boards, etc. Car guys/gals like to get custom stuff with THEIR car on it.
good luck, Jon

PS, do you know what program was used to build the site? I have a site but haven't developed it yet.

I'm sorry. I don't know what program was used...if any. Todd may have just written the code himself.
I haven't started a page with an order form yet. Customers right now just contact me first and I send an order form for all the important info.

I really like it. Since I have a very short attention span, I like sites that let me cruise around with only a few clicks here and there. Johnpro's car looks really cool.

My feedback:
- Are you comfortable listing your prices?
- Can I suggest you consider adding a mailing address and/or phone/fax numbers?
- Also, perhaps you could have a "creation" gallery that shows the whole process: 1) blank piece of paper 2) general sketches 3) detailed sketches 4) color added.

I like it a lot. The only thing I would suggest is that you take off that :gobp car on the home page and make the home page this car:

Not sure why I like that one so much better!

what he said... and man-oh-man, your good! What does a sketch cost? I might have to save up some coin and get one done...

I do agree about the contact page. We are in the process of changing that to include all ways to contact me.
The Process page is also one I had envisioned but the few shots I was going to use weren't good enough. I will probably use pics of the current project I have on my desk.
Prices are something that I am unsure of. Most of the other automotive illustrators out there don't list prices for their work either (for one reason or another) I have thought about it but don't know if that will be a page I will include right yet.

I can understand not wanting to list prices, as it's custom work, it's art work, and it's hard to really say exactly what it will cost. But, and I'm just being honest here, I have never CONSIDERED getting a sketch like that done, because nobody lists prices. I don't even know if I'm in the right neighborhood...and to be frank, I don't email people just to find out I'm too poor to hire them.

Just my take. In the long run listing prices might hurt you, so don't take what I'm saying as advise...I'm just letting you know how I feel about it.

You know, I'm not really thinking about having one for my car, but I might get one for my brother. He's doing a 442 (in the paint booth this week) that was his DD at 16, and it is going to be an amazing car. I bet he'd love having a "first look" before everything is completely assembled.

On the website itself, I really like it. My first look at it made me do a double take as it's really very very different than any other websites you see out there. It really looks like sketched paper on the screen, and the uniqueness of it led me to want to investigate further.

I like the "Process" idea...I really love watching the transformation films DIsney puts out where they show the first hand sketch storyboards, then turn that into pencil animations. Then cleaner B&W animation, and finally start adding color. Seeing the same thing on your process would be cool.

And aside from the website, looking at your gallery...you do amazing work!

Chris, have you thought about having customers' comments about your work for them? Just a thought.
Stan
