New guy here. Great site with a lot of familiar names also. I tend to be more of a lurker than a poster as most of what I’ve been doing with my 66 convertible has been done before . Just wanted to add that I really like the site , and have gotten a lot off helpful information from may of the posters here in the past.
Dave

Here are some pics. I've owned it since 1985 (first car) an it hadn't seen the road since 1990 .I started with the restoration about 2002 it went very slow at first an now im just about done.

Dave,
Welcome to the dark side. Hopefully JeffTepper will be serving cookies after nap time :craz

Very nice vert, would look better in my garage though :coo

Im in need of a new top and a rear-end upgrade . An like most i end up researching every decision to death before i pull the trigger.
The top will be black cloth or vinyl top.
I still have the 8 inch an im up in the air between the 8.8 modified explorer rear or buy a ebay 9 inch housing with the small ends and third member. then i could keep my axle's and brakes.

Real nice 'vert Dave. :coo

How do you like the R&C IFS? Did you go with their adjustable coil-over kit? What headers are you using and did you have any clearance issues?

Their front end kit seems to be the preferred one between Heidt's and TCI. I'm considering one of these kits for my '65 and any insight you could provide would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks!

I like it alot . The ride and steering are great. I went with the power rack and it worked out good with the 235/45/17's tires up front

Yes , at the time i went with the coil overs for the look. An now with the fenders on you cant see them. :craz

Im using JBA shortie headers. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone with windsor jr. heads.I have to use shorter plugs and trim the boots on the plug wires so they fit without melting. They have very tight bends to fit within the shock towers.
They do work well with the R&C front end. I have no clearance issues with the steering shaft.

thanks for the comments

Would you say the adj. coilovers are a benefit from a ride height adjustability and shock tuning standpoint? I realize one could cut coils to fine tune ride height, but it must sacrifice ride quality. Are you using the RC-107 kit with the 2" dropped spindles? How are control arm steering adjustments made?

I assume your running a serpentine belt system for the power steering pump.

Did you investigate the Heidt and TCI kits? I would be interested in hearing your opinions on those kits?

Sorry for all the pointed questions, but it's difficult finding any objectionable info, especially when the manufacturer's own catalogs provide very little detail other than what's published in their magazine ads.

Thanks again.

From a ride height standpoint the coil overs have worked out. I was concerned about my 17" wheels rubbing so i adjusted them up before hand.
I did go with the RC-107 kit regular spindles . read somewhere after that the MII swap does move the spindle height lower.
The 2" drop would be to low for my taste. It's difficult to get the jack under the crossmember now.
The upper control arms are adjusted at the frame mounts. The mounts are slotted about 2 1/2 so there's a lot of adjustment .
I picked up the R&C kit in 2002 so at that time i never looked at the other kits. There's so much information, an so may choices now i think i would have a hard time picking one over the other. You should get opinions about the other kits but for myself i would buy the R&C kit again.

What about the MII do you like? There are kits out there now that modify the towers to give you extra room.

An then there is always those that will say "as soon as you install a MII in your car, the front end will fall off." :)

Having power R&P as well as adj. coilover shocks is a huge plus. I need to replace the shock towers anyway due to the PO severely hacking away at them in order to fit Boss 302 heads.

So, did you use stock ride height rear leafs in order to have the car sit level? Any side view pics you can share?

Your cars stance looks great.

I had once read that use of the stock MII spindles in these IFS kits will give you a 60's era gasser ride height. That doesn't seem to be the case with your car.

you could call the guys at R&C and talk it over with them before you decide on a spindle .
I live in new england the roads are bad you can't go that low without ripping the exhaust off. I really have to lift up the car to get the jack under the crossmember now. If you look at pics of mustangs with the R&C kit you can see the bolts for the rack showing under the car. Im not sure you would want to go lower than that.

Welcome aboard and sweet 'vert!

A couple of comments from reading this thread.....

When using an aftermarket EFI harness (see RJM harness for an example), converting the engine to EFI is a piece of cake and in my opinion, well worth the extra effort.

The design of the Rod&Custom crossmember is such that "regular" height spindles are used. The design of the Heidt's kit requires use of the 2" drop spindles. I'm using the RC-107 kit with the coilover adjustable upper mounts and love every aspect of the kit/conversion.
