Neg Battery Cable....what version?

'67 S-code
Need to replace the negative battery cable due to cracking on the post clamp.
The one came with the car years ago has the extra ground wire from that clamp which is screwed onto the back of the raditor support.
Now NPD notes that the 70-73 cars have this extra wire, not the 67.
I do have a ground wire from the back of the block to to firewall.

So the question is.....Is the wire I have now correct? Do I need to have this extra wire? (I don't think so since I have the block wire)
 
Not sure, but I know my old '70 had it's original factory ground from the block to the firewall.... so the extra ground wire on the 70-73 neg. battery cables shouldn't have anything to do with the engine ground.
 
Mike, are you trying to make it factory correct? The extra wire is definitely not needed. I'm using the Taylor steel braided cables on both of my cars. They look great, and function great. And with Optima batteries, never any corrosion anywhere.

Oh, and BTW, my daughter's '67 doesn't have the extra wire. Yours was most likely added by a PO.
 
If it's even remotely related my 67 Galaxie 390 doesn't have an additional wire on the ground and it appears to a pretty old wire, possibly the original I will have to take a closer look though.

Okay John give me more info on the Taylor versions and why I need them.

Nah not trying to be correct. Heck its a Frankstein anyways....why start now.

They're available at Summit. A little expensive, but are very well made and look as great as they work. My starter cables are also these steel braided cables.

Bought mine from Kragen without the extra wire. I tried the non-concours from NPD and they were terrible and corroded right away.

Happy so far with the cheap one from Kragen.
 
My 66 had a little ground wire from the back of the block to the fire wall too. I just removed it and attached one side to the engine and the other where I attach my neg cable from the battery to the frame.

I figured it all has to be grounded in the same spot anyway.
