Hey guys, new member here. I just got a really good deal on a new old ride and i need help identifying exactly which motor I'm buying parts for. Seems it may have been easy for previous owner to buy a 302 sticker cause it looks like a Windsor to me but I'm no expert.

Need help identifying engine

Windsor is the plant where Ford made lots of engines. What you have there is absolutely a small block Ford. It is NOT a 351W. That engine is a bit taller and hence wider. Too much clearance on the towers to be anything but a 260-289-302.
First easy thing to do is confirm the firing order to see if it is an older engine or a newer one likely out of a Fox body. If it has the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 order its an oldee. From there you need to check casting numbers to know for sure what you have. You can find lots of sources on the Web to show you where to look and how to decode them. Bear in mind, it is very common to find heads have been swapped, etc. so check the numbers on the block and the head(s).

What's it in? If it's a '68 or later and the original engine, it's probably a 302. If it's a swap then it's up for grabs. Like Terry said, check the stampings on the engine and the heads. BTW, just to rule the obvious out, it is not a Boss 302. They have Cleveland heads and, thus, a different shaped valve cover. Can't tell you how many times I've been at car shows, including Mustang shows, and had some "expert" stare at my 302 and ask if it's a Boss. I'm always tempted to say yes and spin a story about the rare '69 Boss 302 convertible, but I always smile and explain that the Boss 302s were all SportsRoofs and had a special engine.
