My Rotten Endng to MITM 09 w/pics

DEL65

Of The Morons
First, thanks to fellow SF'ers for the calls and PT's. It made my day less lousy. Otherwise, we had a great weekend of great friend and telling tall tales. Story: Most of us Nor Cal people planned on returning home as a group. We drove to a local gas station in Shell Beach. While some got fuel, I parked on the edge of the driveway and waited for them to finish up. I was parked/stopped for about 5 minutes. While I was thumbing thru my CD case I heard/felt a 'BANG'. WTF? Then I realized a guy in a full-size truck backed into my car. The right rear corner of his bumper hit my rear gas cap and bumper. Of course, there was no damage to his truck. My taillight panel, bumper, filler nozzle, and cap were damaged. The trunk lid and valance seem undamaged. Here are some scene photos and damage pics. I called his insurance this morning and am waiting for a call back. We'll see how that goes. Thanks again for the condolences; it could have been a lot worse.

The truck that hit me is on the far left. This is where our vehicles were before it happened.

Bummer. You're lucky that his bumper wasn't a little bit higher... it could have ruined the deck lid and jammed the forward edge of the deck lid into the backlight filler panel and also damaged the deck lid hinge points.

Fixing the tail panel/bumper is likely the lesser of the two scenarios.... and the plus side is that he does have insurance... there's a LOT of people driving around here that don't!

I just heard from their insurance and they accept fault. I'm off to the body shop.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. That's a horrible way to end a fun weekend. At least his insurance will be covering it. Don't let them cut corners!!!

Bum deal. I know how ya feel when stuff goes wrong when you on the road.

I.E. grenading my engine at C0rnFeed 9...

Sorry to hear the bad news but glad it wasn't worse. These cars seem to be a magnet for this sort of thing. :voodoo

That sux! Sorry your weekend had to end like that.

That Tundra did not fare too well either. Look at the shot of the left side. The bumper folded under and caved in the rear of the bed.

That hurts to hear about. I was just admiring your great paint job--I hope your painter can match the rear panel to the rest of the car. I hope there's no damage found to anything else.

John I feel so crappy because you didn't need to stop :expl at the gas station.

Wasn't it a Dodge truck?

Well it could have been a lot worse like Sanborn said. At least there were no mechanicals involved and you could drive it home.

John,
Both Barbara and I wished we were looking towards the gas station when the truck chose to start backing up. Maybe we could have avoided the incident.

Nevertheless, I really don't think it will take much to repair that with a qualified body guy at hand. Do you have extra paint or the paint code available? Someone should be able to carefully pull most of that dent out. Since that panel is small and is covered up most by the gas cap and taillight bezels, the blend of the new paint up against your current paint should be pretty straight forward.

Get this....and here I was considering moving Red up next to your car moments before the crunch.

Damn John, that is some sucky news. Hope you end up with no problems on the insurance/repair end of things.

BTW, does this officially put the issue to rest about your car being a figment of your imagination?

Damn John, sorry to hear about your car, like everyone said were glad you didn't get hurt and the damage looks repairable. just another page in the mustang owners life.

Ok, someone has to say it, so let's get it over with:

The guy wasn't homeless or inebriated, so he couldn't see John's car behind him.

Sorry, John. Someone had to get this thread going sideways.
