More news about my potential move to Kennesaw

Well I am at our facility in Aurora (Western Burbs of Chicago) that is scheduled to move to Kennesaw early next year. This is the R&D pilot line and labs I was hired to put in 21 years ago. We had a project that I wanted to be a part of but mainly wanted to talk to them about the move. anyway, the current Director asked me about the potential of coming to work for him in Kennesaw. I told him I was interested in hearing about it. He said the current employees have until 8/15 to accept the offer but regardless he needed me as they would be hiring a lot of new younger inexperienced engineers in the future. He said they planned for something like 150 people total for the whole place. The group here in Aurora is only 15 and 3 are at a level that didn't get an offer. There is a lab in Canada that is moving also and will be combined that has about 40 that got an offer. So were talking about close to 100 new people! About a 1/3 of the building will be for the group I would be in, a 1/3 for "pie -in-the-sky" type development and the rest he thought would be innovation for automotive. The place will be called Novelis Global Research & Development Center.
My boss called me just a little while ago and said it wasn't a matter of if but when I go. He talked to his former boss on Monday, who is now moved up, and he told my boss it was expected that I would go. From all I can gather they are figuring it is a done deal.
I hope they make me a good offer!

Congrats Craig! hope that's what you want to hear, change can be good. I don't think you'll regret the promotion, if I passed on a promotion I'd always be thinking that the guy telling me what to do would have been me...Boy is that going to be an adjustment for the Canucks in GA!

I've got another car idea I'll have to discuss with you at the NMCA races in a couple weeks, the wife and daughter will be in Knoxville so I'm free. I'd prefer to go Sat. looking at the schedule as there's more going on.
Jon

thanks, I just want to make sure as I relocate the family "again" that they get something out of this as well.
Jon, I look forward to hang out at Beach Bend!

no no no, but it's like many of the powers that be think it's what I should be doing or what "they" want me to do. If I don't take it it would probably mean I will be stuck in my current job forever because they won't offer me another opportunity. I could be content to retire doing what I do but the new job would be a promotion, more money, higher job grade. Higher % bonus, etc.
I will give up a lot of "freedom" because right now I set my own schedule and work from a home office (of course I'm never home!). I will have to give up my company car, cell phone and home internet service. However, I should be home more...

Make sure to figure these into the raise they should kick in - and if your boss is amenable, you might mention it to him so that he can mention it to others .....

I say go for it. As you say if you don't take it its basically saying to the higher ups that you are comfortable at where you are and don't want to 'move up', ever.

Isle 6.....Home Depot.

It's aisle, not isle. The first word is for a space between shelving; the second is a small island.

Seam is a hemmed portion of a garment (shirt seam), but seem is like "appear".

When I give a presentation I like to start by writing this acronym: SDK
It stands for Spelling Don't Kount. I need a new one for grammar I guess
