I have received 16 emails from Paul O'Connor from http://www.oconnoraccounting.com/ regarding a car he purchased from someone in the US recently. I sold the car to someone on the VMF back in the summer of 2007 and it seems the buyer has possibly scammed Mr. O'Connor. Mr. O'Connor found me via a web search on the VIN and thinks I am involved because the person that sold him the car used my name and forged my signature on a Bill of Sale! Mr. O'Connor appears to be legit because the signature he has looks identical to my signature and I sold the car with a signed title, from which I'm guessing the buyer copied my signature.

How do I verify Paul O'Connor is not some sort of scammer himself? I'm not really sure what is going to happen here, but I expect cooperating is in my best interest.

Sounds like he is an accountant.

I'd tell him that you sold the car in 07 and have not seen it since. I'd also tell him to quit harassing me.

How was he scammed? Did he buy the car which was actually stolen from the new owner? I assume you have docs showing you sold the veh in '07? Does your state require you to send in a Release of Liability showing you've relinquished your interest in the car? A reg check will verify transfer. I'm not sure how he can assume you're involved just because someone forged your signature.

I never got any documentation from the guy I sold the car to. Someone in Elkhart, IN sold him the back half of a car that same day. The guy I sold it to has been around the forum for years and it seems like I've seen him active somewhere recently.

Here is my original for sale ad: http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/1967-through-1968-mustangs-sale/548488-1967-convertible-project-oh-border.html

The guy has backed off since I replied to his email. I understand his anger/frustration. I sold the car for $1200. It was a huge project. Paul O'Connor is out $7500, it seems.

For all I know, the guy I sold the car to could have sold it since then and a third person scammed Paul. What a mess. I have a feeling this is going to be a hard lesson learned for Mr. O'Connor. He is in contact with Florida authorities trying to resolve his problem.

Oh... the car is not in the condition Mr. O'Connor was expecting and it seems he was supposed to receive a rotisserie and possibly some other things as well, but that stuff did not arrive with the car.
