Making car a roller

Ok, got all my suspension hung and I don't want to have to deal with compressing the coil to take the suspension on and off. What are my options? I have a junk set of shocks that I'm thinking about making a set height. Not sure how to accomplish yet. Any suggestions? Will making the shock static do what I'm looking for?

I would think that the shock idea would work fine. Weld a bead in the right spot on an old set of shocks and should work good. A 4X4 cut to the right length would work also.

Ah I wouldn't weld the shock, gases or oils in the shock could make it go boom. What about some 1" tubing welded to some plates drilled to bolt where the shocks mount.

Get some tubing that has the same ID as your shock shaft OD. Cut it in half length wise, cut it to the right length and hose clamp it to the shock shaft.

I also wouldn't weld on a shock for fear of it getting blowed up.

I was just thinking about laying a thick bead around the shock shaft so it couldn't slide in the body. I was thinking about the tubing idea also.

If you pull the shock out a bit so the inside doesn't get hot from the welding, that'll work and take less time. I wouldn't weld the shaft to the body. Just make a blob so it won't go in the shock.

NO..NO..don't weld on a shock the gas or oil inside will expand and blow, I know from experience

Too late :rr I laid a thick bead around the shaft far away from the body. It worked for me, but from your experience I wouldn't do it again :bomb

I cut a chunk of 4x4 wood to the right lengths and attached top and bottom with a couple wood screws. Rolled around like that for a yesr, including hauling to paint shop...
