Lowered Seat Pans - 65/66 coupe

Has anyone here lowered their seat pans 1". Any advice??? My guess is the best approach is to take them out, trim 1"and then plug weld the removed pieces to the pan such that the flange can be re-used... My reason for doing this is that I am 6' 2", but only have a 32" in-seam... a lot of my height is in my Torso...

I should have lowered the seat pans back when I restored the car, but I didn't. Had to fab up custom seat mounts for the race seats to lower them tight to the pans. IIRC, you cut the 1" out of the middle and weld them back together.

If you use the 69-70 floor pans you can gain about 1 1/2. If you use our headliner you can gain 2 1/2 inches.

Do you mean the 69/70 Seat Pans???

Thanks for the tip... my thought of drilling holes and over lapping the cut off flange portion was meant to save welding time... a few plugs and tack welds is quicker than a full penetration weld...

Don't take just my word for it! Search around before cutting to make sure. It's been awhile since I was reading about dropping the pans.

I cut the risers out, hammpered them flat and welded them back in place. Under the car I welded a square steel sheet to the floorpan then I welded two 6"x3/16 thick slats running crossways from the rocker pannel to the subframe connector to reinforce under the seats. The only other car I've felt I was sitting lower in was a friends modded Fiero. Seats are takeouts from a 2004 Viper, fit about the same as 03 Cobra seats.
