loosing your mustang mojo

I am chomping at the bit to get started on mine. I can't do anything until I get some paint work done on it. And thats the one thing I will not do. So in the mean time I am gathering up parts so they are sitting here waiting. The one thing I am getting going on is the engine. It is at the machine shop right now. As soon as the pistons so up (about 3 weeks) they are going to get right on it. So in about 5 weeks I hope to be putting it together.

I am wondering if it may help you to hang out with some other Mustang guys, whether with a local club or even on these forums.

You were really into your Mustang(s) once, what changed? Can you fix that? I really agree that you should consider restoring one 'stang at a time. I can imagine how overwhelmed you must feel, and I have just one!

The biggest joy I get from my car is the time I get to spend with my family when we are out driving. Not far behind that is watching people admire my car and knowing that I made her look that way all myself. Can you identify those joys for yourself?

Good luck. You aren't alone, it passes.

I concur with some of the others - too much on your plate.

I found it hard enough to stay motivated on my one project, let alone four. Even on one it can be overwhelming and it feels like you'll never get done. But, by making time to do something every day (or when you can) helps get things scratched off the "to do" list. They do feel like accomplishments and do make you feel better about progress.

My best friend has about four going on. He's in his mid 50's and is running out of time (meaning you can't crawl around these things forever). Yet, he's getting nowhere because all he sees is how "impossible" it is to get them all done. He's experiencing gridlock, and may not get out. He wants them all so bad he can't let go of any of them. But, if he is to have any chance of finishing any of them, he must let go of the rest.

My advice to him and you is to focus on one and hope you manage to get to the others before you're too old to do so. Focusing on one, and striving for little daily goals will get you there. I'm sadly sure my buddy won't get his done, but you may be able to.

I have 3 Mustangs in various states (not counting parts cars, lol) The 66 vert is my wifes car. it's a good DD, certainly not a show car, but a fun cruiser. A 66 Coupe that I have forgotten how long I've been working on. I putz around with it occasionally but I'm in no hurry at all. I figured out a long time ago, I am one of the guys who always needs a project in the garage. If I pushed it would easily be on the road. But that's where my Foxbody comes in :) Have a 91 Coupe (notch) it's a 5.0 5spd, with 3:73's, Exploder intake, GT40P heads, Bassani catted X pipe, Z rated tires... Loud and fast!

They all have their places...

My motivation killer is my wife. Funds has a lot to do with it as well but my wife has the final word and says that I work in the garage too much and ignore her. Funny since I haven't worked on the car in months because of her. She has the overhauling mentality thinking that I should have a complete restoration done in a week since they do it on TV.
