Looking for some wheel spacing info

Yes, I have done as much research as I possibly could for a very long time but it never hurts to ask. About to pull the trigger and buy some wheels and tires but wanted to see if anyone out there has any first-hand knowledge of this particular fitment.

1965 stock spindle w/ Arning drop
1" lowering springs
and here's the biggee...Wilwood brakes w/std hub arrangement meaning wheel is pushed out some 1/2"+ from best I can figure

Looking to get a 17 x 7 wheel with 4" backspacing. Not a big tire. 215/45 or maybe 225. Who has something similar enough to give me a solid answer on if I will run into any clearance issues.

Would love to order 'em up asap so I can get this thing onto the ground and mobile. Best deal is if I buy all at once obviously so would like to avoid buying one just to test (although I suppose a matching spare wouldn't hurt).

Any chance someone would be able to take a width measurement for me on a 65/66 with stock track width. Looking to get the distance from the wheel mounting surface on one side to the other on the front. I want to be able to calculate just how much my set-up has moved the wheels outboard. Since it looks like I will need to get a custom wheel made might as well design the thing to fit just the way I want it.

Thanks

I forgot about that handy-dandy little tool! Thanks :mark

Stole a bit of time last night and mocked up one spindle/brake assembly. I bought this stuff years ago and honestly forgot what all I had cobbled together. Seems I am a little brighter than I thought as I purchased through the vendor I did because he fabricated custom pieces to eliminate the standard Wilwood offset. What I have is not a standard kit at all. He selected each piece individually to suit my needs. So I should be at the stock "track" width at my wheel mounting faces.

If only someone I knew with a 65/66 could take a bit of time to pull off their fronts and take that measurement for me I could be sure. Maybe someone who doesn't have a job and sits poolside all day could find it in his heart to help a guy out...

So now I'm thinking the standard wheel I am looking at just might work so long as I keep the tire size to the narrow end. I have found an example of 16 x 7 wheels with 4" BS sporting a 215/55r16 that fit well. A 17 x 7 w/4" BS with a 215/45r17 is actually .7" smaller in diameter so I think it will fit as well.

But he might miss Judge Judy if he did that. :dun

OK, just for you T E R R Y...even though it's difficult (and slightly painful) to bend down to the floor AND even to get in & out of the 66...

Here's your info.

Rotor to Rotor = 52 3/4"
The rotor hat sits 1 7/8" out from the rotor
Soooo, the total hat to hat measurement is 56 1/2"

I have stock spindles and Cobra Auto aluminum hubs which are supposed to be the same as a stock setup.

Now I have to go back to the PT (physical therapist)...hope you're happy.

Of course not. Be posting up my findings shortly. Had quite a bit of work to do last night to be able to get good measurements. Got one more thing to do this morning before I can take accurate measurements on my car. Patience grasshopper. Your effort is greatly appreciated.

I got the feeling that you might need more measurements, so all on my own...without asking...I took the front wheel, brake caliper and rotor off. I measured from the inside face of the stock 66 spindle (between the 2 bolt holes) to the outside face of the hub (where the rotor hat would sit). It was 2 3/4".

Good thing I go to the physical therapist again tomorrow.

Ok, so I did a couple more things and took some measurements. Given all the variables in trying to measure a track width between the two cars, Gimpy and I focused in on the stock spindle face distance to the actual wheel mounting surface. Mine measured out at 2.5" so it looks like the custom brackets, etc. did in fact eliminate any offset the Wilwood pieces might have made to the car.

I will come back in a bit and add some pictures showing the measurements taken.

Thanks again for the help :mark
