Looking for a switched power source under the hood.

Experiencing brain fade. Looking for a switched power source under the hood to power an electric fan controller on my 67.

I really cannot think of any under the hood other than the ignition, and I do not think that you would want to use that. I am also assuming that by "switched" you mean when the key is on. Lots under the dash, you may have to run a wire from under the dash to the engine compartment. "Under the dash" one of those fun places for us old dudes. :hs

There's a green/red wire that goes to the voltage regulator that you can tap into, but not for any significant amount of power.

Thanks, I'll use the one off the voltage regulator, it's an 18 Gage wire to the controller so the voltage should be low. Going under the dash at my age is getting too painful.

James:

Are you looking to power a relay for the fan, or the fan itself? Consider this, with the heat typically generated by a big block you might wire up the fan circuit so that the electric fan can operate after the engine is switched off but the thermo switch is still hot enough to run the fan so as to minimize the heat soak that occurs when the air under the hood stops moving. This is the way some modern electric fans are operated.

Regards, Jeff

P.S. getting under the dash at any age is painful!!!!

I may do that. Now the fans will only operate with the ignition in the on position. I took it on a test drive today it's 90 degrees, and it was fine at freeway speeds, but in stop and go surface street traffic the temp would reach 220+ at the stop lights, and then down to 190 when moving. I'm betting the traffic going into the track is going to be a nightmare, of course the traffic on the 15 going thru Vegas it self is always a mess. I may end up driving our Toyota to the 50th on Wednesday :hs, I'm taking it to a performance shop tomorrow morning to see if they can trouble shoot the cause this. Nothing like getting down to the wire. :bomb
