Little video of what it's like riding in Gertrude!

Was bored this morning on the long drive to the car show so pulled out the iphone and took a little video. Made my husband drive. I still don't feel that comfortable driving that fast in this rust bucket. :amaz The sound quailty of the video is crappy. It's a LOT louder that what you hear.

Cruising in the 'rustang'

Oh and the car show was fun. Didn't win anything, but who cares. One of the guys (has a camero) I know from my club was there and he won his class, best paint, and best of show. :vic The Best of show trophy was taller than his son! I'm not even sure how he got it in his car and got it back home. :amaz

Was no under construction or anything. My only option was modified '60's class which is the same class the camero was in and there was NO competing with his awesome car. I'll post up some car show pics in the morning. Still need to get them out of my iphone. We were in a rush this morning so I forgot to take my 'real' camera.

What kind of iPhone do you have that records that badly???

I assume 3G since it's not native video. Try ivideocamera it's pretty good.

Cool video...how did you guys know how fast to go?

My cell can take short videos but I've never bothered to figure out how to put them on the web.

- I won't get behind the wheel on the highway until after I redo the suspension and brakes. Little bumps in the road made her dance all over the road and I for the first half an hour I had a death grip with one hand holding my seat and the other the window frame. :ep

- Yes, I still have the iphone 3G I got a couple years ago. I don't even have the phone turned on anymore. I only use it for music, apps, pictures, etc.

- We had no idea how fast we were going most of the time unless we passed a car.. or a car passed us. As for getting videos on the web, try emailing yourself the video and upload it to photobucket or youtube.

- LOL @ trees out here. Go a little farther west, towards San Marcos.. and you get into hill country with lots of hills and beautiful scenery!

- That was one of the back highway roads from Bryan to Buffalo TX and usually not much traffic at 8am. That's why no cars.

Do what they do in NASCAR. One of you drive your Lexus down a long, not-busy road at a set speed. Say, 45. Have the other follow in gertrude, and once the speed stabilizes, note where the engine RPM are sitting. Make sure you're in the cruising gear. With an automatic this is less accurate than it would with a stick shift, but it'll give you a rough idea.

You can then repeat with several other common speeds. (35, 55, 65) each time making note of the engine RPM. Make SURE you're at a stable RPM...during acceleration or deceleration you won't be able to get a stable reading, but this will help you with cruising.

Cruising gear??

I know we were pretty much cruising at damn near 3000 rmp on the highway. After that little trip, hubby said one day.. we are going to swap the C4 with an AOD.

Any idea what gear is in the rear end?

I run about 2,800 - 3,000 rpm when just cruising at around 55 mph with my 3.55 gears.

They pace a Lexus in NASCAR to determine how fast they are going?

Windsheild... not up there that high, but it's up there. Waiting to see if I can find one cheaper than a new one. Of course I don't want to replace the windshield until I have the stuff to put the headliner in.

Zebra thing is my daughters backpack I borrowed for the day. :lol

I thought the zebra thing was a part of one of Dave's "going out to party" outfits I had seen on here.

New windshield means new gasket also. You might find a fair used one but a new one is so much nicer. Most installers will not cover breakage of a used glass so unless you are installing it, you might ask around at some shops and see what they will or will not do.

My '66 with the 289 and AOD, 3.50:1 gears, and 225/60/15 tires, at 55 mph (GPS) the tach reads 1700 rpm in high gear. Third gear at 55 mph the tach reads 2500 rpm. According to the PO, it will get 20 mpg on the highway.

I almost got a new windshield a couple of months ago. Saw it on Houston craigslist.. brand new, never installed for I think $50 (or maybe $75 I forgot). It was actaully located south of Corpus and I couldn't justify driving 3hrs there and then 3hrs back for a windshield that wasn't even a carlite one. Plus it would have been a pain to get it back home in the Lexus with kids in the backseat.

Doug over at Classic Collision here in town said he's going to keep an eye out for one though. I'm also checking craigslist. Or I could find one for like $150 on ebay.

Yeah. That's why I haven't really messed with replacing the windshield yet. It's not a simple remove/install new when I'll have to do other stuff.

In the meantime... I deal with the cracks. It's still legal to drive as long as the crack doesn't impair the driver's view which it doesn't.
